considering a 2006 Rubicon - any reasons not to?

I'm in the process of finding my first Wrangler, and hoping to get some insight on what to look for and what is a good deal. My budget is under 20K. Looking for something stock, and don't really plan on doing much as far as Mods at least for awhile. I do hope to hit up some trails and some beaches in the summer, but don't think i'll be scaling any boulders quite yet ;). Here's my list of newb questions:

What does a Rubicon get me that an X or cheaper model doesn't have?Should I get a Rubi and settle for more miles, or find an X with low miles?
Any advice on how many miles are too many?
A lot of the jeeps I've found in my price range are 2006. Is there anything inherently bad or good about that year?

Here's one that caught my attention.
2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon SUV - Renn Kirby Chevrolet Buick - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 17325

that's not a bad deal at all, and you can always haggle. check it over, inside and out. especially underneath. if it's clean, try to talk them down to about $17k or so. at that price and mileage, get the rubi. the x is plenty capable, the rubi is more capable and gives you jeeper cred, if you care about that sort of thing, lol. a similar x isn't going to be a tremendous amount less and that rubi looks very clean, has new tires and looks bone stock.
i don't know where that last pic came from, though.

It's a 6 speed if you get the manual, and the last year they put the I-6 engine in there. Its what i have, (not the rubi though) and I love it.

Rubicon has lower gears, and air lockers. Maybe upgraded suspension (not sure on TJ's) That one is nice looking, but those nerf bars are lame...

Not, because the interior looks like a dodge caravan, and that is super not straight, or G_ _.....I think in 2007 they got their act together, Lets just say Chrysler never gets it right the first time.

as far as rubi's go looks like you have a nice mass of options to look at.. IMO Don't fall in love with the first one you see.. Make sure you look at at least a few

If its as clean as it looks in the pics, I'd buy it

Do it! I got an 06 Rubi unlimited, love the extra space. With 4/1 low & e lockers you can climb things you would have problems walking up. It is a great base to start from.

If you decide to go with an 05-06 just make sure they pull the OPDA and check for signs of wear before you buy it.

lol at 06 with e-lockers.. Mental typo ken? The Rubi LJ is as ideal as it gets for a stock platform.. If you can find one of those in good condition your golden

Loos clean, I bought a 04 Rubi with 47k miles and have not looked back, I would offer 17 or 17500 if all is as clean as the pics look.

This. Super not happy about the ODPA situation.

XJ Knight 02-14-2011 01:50 PM

Should I be worried about future events with such product?

Jp90Talon 02-14-2011 09:33 PM

Only if you own an 05-06

Edit: Runs dry right or something in that effect and makes kinda like a squealing noise?

You should skim this thread. Just remember the recall the put out was only for Wranglers built in Jan and Feb of 05 but all 05-06's are at risk.

Thanks.. After you brought up the opda being a issue on the 05-06 I did a quick search on ROF and I got to this link from there 2005-06 Jeep OPDA_CPS_Distributor Failure - JeepForum.com

Solid write up on the issue

Just wanted to thank everybody for their info. It's been awhile since I last posted, but have been trolling the forum trying to learn a thing or two before I make a purchase. I'm definitely leaning towards a 2006 LJ Rubicon 49K miles, that I found. However this whole OPDA issue scares me. I don't want to be driving down the highway and have this thing break. Are there warning signs to look out for before it goes?

MTH 03-03-2011 01:37 PM

If I could have any TJ I wanted, it would be a 2006 Rubi Unlimited (LJ). Just sayin' . . . .
