wheel backspace question
Looking to buy some cragar soft 8s 15x8 for my 31x10.5 BFG ATs, want to use these rims when I go to 33x10.5 down the road. I had to adjust my steering stops and want to get my turning radius back to stock.

If my stock 15x7 rim has 5.5 backspacing and I buy a rim with 4 backspacing, my tires will stick out another 1.5"?
Does this mean my tires are 1.5" futher away from my springs? or are they .5 further away from my springs since the wheel is 8" instead of the stock 7?

These are the specs
Cragar Series 397 Black Soft 8 Steel Wheel
15"x 8" Rim
5 on 4.5" bolt pattern
4.00" Backspace
91 YJ 4.0 AX-15, RE ED 2.5 lift, 1" BL 31x10.5 x 15 BFG AT KOs-Herculined tub, custom rear swing away spare tire Pending SYE, 4.10 axle swap 1" MML
When my rear breaks-8.8

The backspacing measures from the rear bead area to the wheel mounting surface. Even if you have a 15" wide wheel there will still be that 4" or whatever is specified back spacing from the wms to the bead. You will still gain the 1.5" that you are looking for. You could have issues with the law though. I don't know how the laws are in your area with tires hanging outside the flares.

I'm in NY I see lotza rigs with tread outside the flares. I'll look into the law here in NY

Some steel wheels i am looking at only come in 0 or 6 backspace. that seems like a bad combo. i want a 5.5" like stock. 0 would be way too much for stock tires, and 6 might be hitting leaf springs on full turn...

i fit 33 12.5 15 on a 15 x 8 with a 3 in backspacing.
