Cat back systems.....?

Hey everyone! I have a solid list of mods I plan to purchase within a month. I am very excited to get everything completed and post some pics. I was thinking today about the option of a dual exaust cat back system. Just something that may give me a slightly more aggressive sound and look.

Two questions... 1.Is it worth the money? 2.Anyone know of a good one for sound/price/performance?

Thanks!

The cat-back systems, for the JK/JKU are good only for sound-NO HP/MILEAGE gains-and tuning individual lengths isn't THAT important--you're not racingit-

Now you'll have a lot of choices-BORLA/BANKS/GIBSON/JCW--

I've used Flowmaster for quite a few years (30) and probably some of the other can sound as good, but I've got FM 40 dual cat-back and after many years of installing exhaust systems-For the ultimate sounds you need at least of 6' of DUAL secondary exhaust, to exit AT the REAR, not underneath-and the FM 40 cat-back sounds are better than sex-(well, maybe not)

You have to know the muffler dimensions to assure of it's fit-just forward of the evap can

You can google the systems for sound bytes-

Good luck

aFe Power Package worked for me.

I think they are all pretty much the same. On my Rig, I did the aFe Power package, it included the hi-tuck exhaust; Stage 2Si air intake and the throttle body spacer. It sounds good, not to much noise in the cab, but a soft tone that you can deal with. When you get on it, people hear you coming. It did bring it back to life a little, but nothing major in HP gains, it just seems a little more pep when getting on to the highway. I went with the Hi-tuck for dealing with obstacles on the trail. If you going to spend close to $400 for a Cat-back system, hitting a rock on the trail can ruin your day. Installation was a breeze, about hour twenty minutes. Check out YouTube to get a feel on what direction you want to go with Cat-back system there quite a few in the market place.

Good Luck, have fun. :)

Peace!

An exhaust was the first thing I went after on my JK (09 Sahara) after getting it. After much consternation, I went with a Borla stainless cat-back ($ for headers to tail was a bit steep at the moment). While I tend to agree with jimback on the whole, my overall 'theme' is to try and get the most out of the engine I can without turning it into one of my muscle cars from years past. So, I added a JET performance Stage 2 module (Borla rep recommended it). They also recommended a 180 deg thermostat (which I have yet to find). With that and the additional breathing of a better air filter, I have noticed a bit of a difference. It doesn't sound like a freight train, but does have a nice bit of purr at low speeds, and getting on it will let people around you know you're there. I'll try and get some pics of this up soon.

I added the Airraid intake and Magnflow exhaust. I drive ever day on I-75 70 miles round trip. As soon as I added these I went from 17 to 19 mpg. Sound is just right for me.

Have you guys seen the Banks air intake? It looks pretty solid! Anyone have that one on here?

I did the whole Banks power package on my Exhaust headers and intake. I didn't really feel any improvement in power from the "butt in seat dyno" but I did get 2mpg better than stock. It sounds nice too. throaty but no drone.

Jimbox ---- this might be best suited for you but i have a question about the FM 40 series. Based on what I have seen people write and heard from sound bites that seems like the overall best choice. However, does the FM 40 come ready to be bolted on or does it require a lot of modification. Meaning do you have to "make it work" for the JK or does it come ready to go?

Thanks!

I put the AFE Mach Power catback exhaust and Airaid Cold air intake on mine and my mileage went from 17 to 19mpg. The only gripe I have is that this particular exhaust is very loud/borderline obnoxious.
