2.5" Teraflex or 4" ProComp Lift Kit?

Hi eveyone,
Recently I purchased 08 Rubicon 4door and can't decide between 2.5" teraflex BB with OEM rubicon shocks and 33" ProComp Xtreme M/T tires on 17" rims or 4" ProComp lift kit with 35" tires on 17" rims. I live in Florida, so it will be a daily driver and once a year we would like to go wheeling out West in Utah. So what do you thing I should do? What will be better for a lot of highway miles to get out West from Florida and be safe on highway and then do some trails for a couple of months? Please advice. Thank you.

Alex

Had the same questions weeks ago ... 33's or 35's ... a 2.5" lift or a 4 ... follow this thread, it's kind of an eye opener

One last thing ... 33's are bad enough but if you go 35's be prepared to spend BIG money at least on gears. Lift it over 2.5-3"'s and you will need driveshafts also.

Any interest in 2008 X wheels and tires? There are 5 Goodyear Wranglers (maybe 2,000 miles on them) on the the stock steel wheel (16 inch). I upgraded and willing to trade?? In Monterey CA. Rogerasay@yahoo.com

Teraflex. Quality is much better then ProComp and from comments I've read form owners of both kits, Teraflex rides a lot nicer.

Splurge and get the teraflex prerunner kit :D

I have the same year/model as you. I have the 2.5 Teraflex with 35's. Love it. Didn't have to re-gear. I think the 2.5 is perfect for what type of wheeling you do. No problems with anything lift related for the last 40,000 miles.

I would say the Teraflex 2.5 and 35's is the best option of the two.

I had my local shop install my TF lift. They loaned me a rig with a Pro Comp 4" lift on it for the day they installed. My rig with the TF lift handles much better. Go TF

Looks like I'll go with teraflex. Did you installed 2.5" TF BB and kept your original shocks? What size of tires you have on? Thx.

OK looks like TF it is. Do I've to regear with 35" tires on my Rubi? Thx

How any of you running 35's got away without regearing is amazing - it must run like a slug. Sure regearing is expensive, but frankly with everything said and done, going from 4.10 on my 44's to 5.13's is probably the best investment I made. Thoughts? I'm curious

WS Offroad 02-19-2011 12:51 AM

I would opt to regear when the budget allows. It will make a big diffrence. Look into 5.13's and when you do it would be wise to add some sleeves and c-gussets while at the shop. Lockers would also be a good idea at that time.

I have a 4DR Rubi 08 & the first mod I did was the 4" Pro Comp lift with shocks (Stage 2), other than new rock sliders. Ride hasn't changed. Barely lost gas mileage (which your going to lose more of w/ the larger tire). Went 4 wheeling 3 days in a row w/ no problems. Next ride I did pull the boot off my driveshaft & messed it up but it was a rough trail that even ppl with bigger lift & tires were getting wenched.
