Wrangler Lug Stud problems
 
I have come to a hault in rebuilding my front end of my 95 wrangler, 2 of the lug studs have stripped out not allowing me to take the lug nuts off or remove the wheel wondering if anyone has encountered the problem and any easy fixes?

Have had it happen a few times on the TJ with the factory style junk nuts. Few things to try: If you have air tools you may be able to get enough speed on it that it free's itself. Other wise you may have to drill it out. Which if you have the factory rims like I did you may end up destorying the rim material. It took a while, if you have after market rims.. where the whole lug is exposed.. just use a cut off wheel to cut two or three full length slits in the lug nut then bust it off the stud then replace with a new stud. Bottom line everyone should get rid of the factory lug nuts and get some better after market ones.

I had this happen to me when Jiffy Lube rotated my tires (stock rims) and cross threaded a lug nut on. I tried using a dremel with a micro-milling bit.... after about an hour of fine machining and many bits I cut 2 slots down 2 sides of the nut. The problem I still faced was that I couldn't remove enough of the material at the base of the nut to remove it. So at that point I decided to drill out the stud. Using a small bit and working my way up I drilled out the stud in a very short time. hind sight is 20 - 20.... drilling is the way to go, just don't drill deeper then the lug nut. You don't want to damage the hub. Good luck with this, and let us know how you make out.

Thanks for all the advice, the drilling definitly worked better then all of the other options. A key that i found was to use 3 or 4 smaller drill bits to get the bigger drill started, it takes a little longer but a lot easier on the back and the drills. Also in puttin the studs back in i found a factory hole in the dust shield of the rotor and if you have a long enough punch you can knock the new ones in with out disassembling everything else.
