U Connect?

Why does U Connect say unavailable on my radio? is there a way I can get it to work?

binaryking 05-17-2007 10:26 AM

In some vehicles even if you don't have U-Connect, they still put a little fake button there to take up the space. I don't know why, but they do. If you do indeed have it, then take it to the dealer and have them check it real quick.

i read this on other forums, but apparently the Uconnect is not a working function on any of our JKs. DaimlerChrysler just reused the radio that was on other vehicles and threw it on our JK to save cash, instead of making a new radiohead for it. However, dealerships gave some lame excuse about Uconnect being unable to work because of the open air driving and whatnot.

So, bottomline. we paid for a function that doesn't even work in our jeeps. OH well....Happy Jeeping!

Neil.

You didn't pay for U-Connect. It's an option. It's not like it comes standard on anything. Well it may come standard in some loaded mini vans or an Aspen, but not on any Jeeps. Also, U-connect CAN be added to a JK and it DOES work. I've seen it and have even set it up for customers. But if you have the top down, it may be a little hard for the people on the other end of the phone to hear you.

Please post the part number / description / price for the kit you set up. This would be great for the times the hard top is on.

No problem, I'm off on Wednesday, I'll get the info and post on Thursday, unless I wind up going in tomorrow for something.

Yeah, I'm curious about this also. My salesman when I got my JK told me it was ready to go but I have since learned there is a kit that has to be installed to make the system operable. I think it consists of the wireless speaker thingy that becomes your microphone and control buttons for the bluetooth. I stopped at another dealer yesterday and they didn't know what I was talking about either, I sure am glad I know something about the products I sell, if these dealers took that approach they would be a lot more successful with their sales. I feel much more comfortable buying something from somebody who knows what they are talking about.

The kit I am talking about needs to be installed. You put the microphone up above the rear view mirror, or on the left upper portion of the windshield. It then plugs into the radio harness. I checked the numbers I used on the kit today, forgot to take them so I could put it here but I will. The kit is actually from a Dodge Magnum. Go figure. The parts guy told me that there was no kit for the JK when I asked him to get me one, but he knew that the Magnum kit would work. We have excellent parts guys. :)

So, I'll post the part number tomorrow at some point. Been a little busy moving into a new apartment.

Were you ever able to find the p/n's and prices for these parts? The new jeep finally showed up and I am anxious to install this. Thanks.

binaryking 08-01-2007 08:06 PM

Sorry, i forgot all about it. I'll look it up on Thursday and let you know. Just wrote myself a note.

binaryking 08-02-2007 08:34 PM

Part Number is 82210081

Price is $309, ouch.

* EDIT: Plus you are going to want to have it dealer installed, which will probably run you an hour or so of labor. You may be able to find an aftermarket solution for a bit less money. I'm not sure though because I haven't gone that route.

mtbiker 08-05-2007 06:07 PM

Thanks! All the other buttons do something so I guess it is time for this one work also.

binaryking 08-05-2007 09:04 PM

Well the part numbers I gave you are for the external install. It is not going to work with the button on the radio, it will be a separate unit.

mtbiker 08-06-2007 07:19 PM

Oh well, back to the drawing board (and still watching for a factory designed unit)

That is factory designed. That's the one they make for installing after the build. They will not be making a part that works with your existing radio.

Hello guys.

Has anyone confirmed that the Uconnect will work/ can be modifed to work??

I have an 07 Rubicon. I purchased a Mopar Unconnect kit; part #82207853AF. Today; I uninstalled my radio to find that the plug is different on my radio than what the the Uconnect harness has. Is there an adapter for this??

Also, this Uconnect unit came with a button/control pad and an external speaker. Is a connection through the radio even needed? Will this work with just the external speaker and the supplied mic? I'm thinking just splice somewhere for current; use the provided mic and speaker and it should work. If the Unconnect needs the harness for power; then I'm wrong.

You thoughts guys??

Thanks

I just installed a kit from ART that enables both the VR and the Uconnect. The only problem I have right now is my phone is not compatible with MYGIG. The VR works great. The kit plugs into the center port in the back of the MYGIG unit. You can run the mic wherever you want. The web sight is http://www.amerustechnology.com/Mic_kit.html. The price of the kit is $85.

For the 07 and 08 Wranglers you want Mopar Part # 82211004.

Here is a write up: http://www.jdrogers.com/newjeep/Wrangler_Uconnect.pdf

This is NOT the case. You can add the part mentioned above (Mopar # 82211004) and it works just fine.
