Overly complex wiring harness?
1 Attachment(s)
I looked at the amazing TJ radio install Thats hosted on this site. So I went to get the wiring harness to "make my life easy" but in an effort to knock the project out early I got it at wal mart.

It looks completely different from anything else I've seen on the web. Should I just cut the other harnesses off or what?

Haha... wow, a self assemble plug and play harness... You have to pull the tips off the wires attached to the gray part (the piece after the little bit of bare wire showing), and the insert them into the proper hole on the two lose ends.

Then the ends plug into the factory harness, and the single end goes into the new radio.

Thanks. I got the wire stripping and attaching part I was just concerned about the two extra plastic pieces that weren't on the one shown in the write up

The extras are just that...extras. They are used on some other applications most likely listed on the back of the box but not our Wranglers. Just hook up whichever ones fit your radio wiring and leave the rest hang. Don't cut them off or you may run into problems with the wiring shorting together.

What I like to do when I use those connectors is when I attach the wires on the harness to the wires on the connector provided with the new headunit, I pick up some shrink tubing and solder them. Put the shrink tubing on first, solder the wires together, slide the shrink tubing over the new joint and hit it with a heat gun (or if you're careful, you can use the solder iron). Makes for a very clean install and makes sure all your wire connections are good and tight.
