i lean the front seat all the way down and let my board sit there. its a 6' 10" fish and its still got some extra room. what size boards? how many? hard top soft top or no top?

i have a 6'2 and a 6'4.soft top, i need a way to strap it down like that on top because when i bring the bros i cant fit them in with the boards, and a way to pt it up top with everything off! usually i just throw it in the back but when i drive out to assatigue, i have other stuff to hall like firewood, food/drinks plus friends.

Here are some options:
1.Roof Rack

2.No Top

3.Cheapest

number 1 looks like the best option but $300 is way to steep in my opinion. you could probably find all the supplies at a home depot and just make your own rack.

is there a weight limit on the third choice? I am buying a SUP its 12' long and about 32" wide. I dont want it to be weak to hold it.

You'd have to call Quadratec to find out. I have no idea.

Yup, just straps. If you have a nice board you should use towels to protect the board. this is a crappy $99 costco special so I could care less. I drove 20mi on the freeway at 65 with that setup. It was a little scary, but not out of control at all.

Just a suggestion...

You might want to go with fins forward ;)

This will create less up or down force with the nose rocker pointing to the rear as well as keeping the board from sliding backwards off the rack if your straps loosen.

i mean i had that figured out the other day when i was gonna head out but i cant find a way to put it on with my soft top for when its cold. unless i just get a rack, i tried a few diff things but wasnt comfortable with it, major sketchy

jgorm 02-26-2011 09:45 AM

If you want to keep the soft top on, just stick it out the rear window.

Gnarchild 02-26-2011 01:32 PM

well iv done that plenty of times but during the summer everything comes off haha. cant drive on the beach with a jeep and not take everything off ;)

Look around for pieces to a roof rack, all you really need is the piece that goes over the windshield and the piece that goes across the back of the Jeep (most either bolt to the bumper or bolt directly to the Jeep rear corners). Having those two will let you use your soft top still, and spreads out the weight more, which is sooo much better feeling if you have a long board. Have seen people make the pieces out of wood lol, not sure how much I'd trust it :) But it can be done! Or have someone weld them together for you?
