military decal set

I've seen some cool military decal sets for sale, how dumb would it be if I get one? I'm not in the military and never have been. The set includes 3 large stars and a few other decals. Nothing says army or anything like that.

ZOMB1E 02-23-2011 05:59 PM

That wouldn't be dumb. I actually considered ordering a set, and i'm a pretty cool guy :punk:

Robert_Stephens 02-23-2011 05:59 PM

Why would it be stupid. If you have solid rims, narrow tall tires, and a earth color, it would look cool. Go for it. Ain't hurtin' nothing anyway. Cool.

Robert

MMJ89586 02-23-2011 06:08 PM

I have a Sahara tan jk and I think it would look awesome. I just wanted to make sure there was no unwritten rule against this.

ncossey 02-23-2011 06:09 PM

I am a former marine and im telling you that its okay....

Happy shopping.

MartiniMik 02-23-2011 06:18 PM

I've never served in the armed forces, only as a state trooper. I wanted to do the same & settled thus far for a U.S. Army spare tire cover. I say "Go For It!" You're honoring those that served!

kik 02-23-2011 06:57 PM

I was in the military (Army) and I don't see anything wrong with it. On a Jeep it's more of a heritage thing. It honors, I think, a "Jeeps" service. Plus, certain decals do look cool. What other vehicle has a service history like that. Do it tastefully and it will look good.

seadog 02-23-2011 06:59 PM

As long as you don't start telling stories about your time in service, nobody will mind..Think of it as showing support and roll on.

:whistling:everybody knows, this is the NAVY STAR !

MTH 02-23-2011 07:07 PM

You've had at least two military folk tell you that it would be just fine, so it's hard to argue with that. Sounds like you're good. :thumb:

Personally though, if you want my two cents: I've never been in the military, and for that reason I would not do it.

Unless the decals somehow made clear in a non-tacky way that I was merely supporting those that have served, I would constantly have a low level anxiety that people like Ncossey and Kik--or even young people thinking about joining--would stroll up to me and ask what branch I was in, where I was stationed, etc.

This would no doubt be followed with awkward conversations about "supporting" the military rather than ever actually being in it. That would suck. And you can bet after a few of those conversations (maybe even the first), I'd be peeling the things off.

Just my thoughts. Though I suspect that's what you're really worried about too.

I would be interested in checking them out as well.

Big Dee 02-23-2011 07:57 PM

I am retired USAF. I see know problem with this. I also agree with MTH, be prepared to answer questions. With the current support for the military, people are always asking questions when they see something related to the military. Such as what branch, how long, and where were you stationed.

That was ist world war I think and silver-then discontinued, or somrthing like that-

That Black star was part of a "41" army jeep decal set and I liked the star (where it is), but wasn't gonna put Army letters on a YELLOW Jeep, although I do have the "Fuel" decal riight by the gas cap !!

I don't have any close pics of that "fuel" decal, but you can seeit on this pic, right above the cas cap !

From a current Staff Sergeant in the USAF I say go for it. If anyone ask you about it just say that you have a ton of friends in the military and you support them. I (and am sure any other military member past or present on this site) will support your claim!

Sounds good, I have 3 brothers that have retired from the army. I would like to also say Thank You to all those that currently serve and have in the past served in the military!!!

Another...it is fine from a Active duty member. :)

It's your jeep...make it how YOU want.

Hey, I have an Airborne license plate on the front of my work van. It has A skull with an Airborne beret with the words Kill em all let god sort em out. The reason I have this on there is before when I would work in dicey hoods ( I am in New Orleans) I would always have NEER do wells hanging by my van wanting money and cigarets. I was talking to a customer of mine about this and he told me about some of the baddest mofo's that the lower class know about because alot of them served in the military and word got around of who not to mess with. I went to the army surplus and got the plate and never had a problem since. God bless the bada$$ Airborne! When someone asks me if I have served or was Airborne I tell them the story behind the plate. Airborne I salute you! Your reputation has saved me alot of grief and maybe my life! So if you do not claim to be military or a vet I see no problem. If some vet told me otherwise I would remove it.

That's exactly, EXACTLY how I feel about it. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Guess I'll just have to stick with this:

Although I haven't put it on yet... maybe tonight.

17 years Army and counting, and we haven't had those stars on our vehicles since way before my time ;) There's no disrespect in using em at all. If an active duty guy had em, most folks would assume he was trying to honor the old WWII guys in fact... go for it if you like it.
