Center Console Question
I have a 97 TJ and I just pulled the center console up and out. Is there anything that is supposed to be supporting it to the body ie. a bolt or something, or is that just how it is.

I don't know how many but the console is fastened to the floor from the factory.

Not sure about 97's, but my 2003 is fastened to the floor with 3 bolts. Two in the back and one in the front. The bolts are located under the cupholders in both the front and back. I can't imagine that it's supposed to just sit there with no anchors.

Mine has 3 bolts as well, '01.

center console
I don't know if my '05 has any bolts but every time I put it in reverse, it doesn't feel like anything is holding it.

There should be 4 bolts....2 torex head in the rear cupholders....1 bolt in the front cupholder and 1 bolt under the shift boot

Well there are no bolts in the back cup holders. It is separate from the cup holder.

My 97 has 4 one under the shifter boot one in a cup holder and two on the passenger side near the floor the go into the emergency brake bracket

Well I just discovered it is a VDP aftermarket center console. Still how could it bolt down

Go to the VDP site and look at the instructions.

Is it a 5 speed and does it have a lift? Sometimes lifts...especially body lifts result in the shift linkage moving back just enough that the shifter hits the console edge/shift boot when going into 2nd, 4th, and reverse and in order to fix it, the console must be shifted back a little bit and bolted down using new holes. Perhaps bolting it back down was a step that was skipped.
