Auto Tranny Shifter Mods???

I know, I could just buy a Jeep with a manual tranny, but I like my auto. :hide: I do find myself jealous by all the cool shift knobs I see the manual tranny guys/gals' rigs. :nonono: Is there anything you can do to the auto trans. shift knob to "make it your own"? :punk: I'm assuming it's very limited due to the button that you have to push to change gears. Just wondering. Thanks

a few years ago my senior year in high school to play a joke on some friends i installed a manual shifter and boot from a 5 speed fox body next to the auto shifter into my auto mustang. had all my friends convinced it was both a 5 speed and an auto at the flick of a switch :thumb: on a more serious note there are companies that make auto shifters of all kinds from push down the whole shifter to a button but there arnt many. my brother had one that like the handle and trigger to a magnum in his firebird a long time ago lol was fun for a luagh but so unpractical.

There is a billet aluminum shifter at quadratec, it's made by Drake for autos

Other than the above Drake shifter knob, there's not much out there in the way of shift handles that will work with the Wrangler's automatic shifter.

I completely replaced my auto tranny shifter and mechanism with one from B&M and I would never do that again. Its previous smooth shifting action was ruined by the B&M which shifted like crap. I could no longer shift by feel, I had to look at the shift indicator pointer almost every time to see if I was actually in the gear I wanted... especially if I was on a tough trail obstacle that demanded I select the right gear the first time.

I'm sticking with the OE shifter after that fiasco in my previous TJ. It looked good but I would have rather had better shifting.

This is the B&M (Hurst's is the same) I installed in my last TJ... never again would I install one of these.

Thanks for the advice Jerry. Maybe I'll just keep it the way it is.

There are plenty of automatic shift knobs out there. (Goggle and ebay) I got this billet one from Pep Boys in the errrrrrrrrrrr rice section (I hope no one saw me in that area). The only thing was the hole was not large enough for the stalk so I had to bore it out a bit.

It looks as clean as a surgical operating room. I'd let a physician do open heart surgery on me inside Neil's spotless interior. :p

I want it but need to know if it can fit an Auto TJ

According to the Drake catalogue, it is for the JK.

Flameball.com. Pretty expensive. Cool knobs for autos though.
