SVTKEVs Wrecked tj rebuild
hey guys , new guy here rebuilding a wrecked 02 tj
picked up this wrangler for 4k, 02 70000mls,lite right front hit, has good bags
front axle took a little bit of a hit , housing doesnt look bent both right side control arms are bent and the lower arm mounts are mangled, ordered some hd mounts from morris4x4
heres a couple pics of how it sat when i bought it

svtkev 02-27-2011 09:04 PM

heres some pics of a rav4 me and my bro fixed for my wife a while back, had 3000 miles on it when we bought it

SUBZEROCOOL 02-27-2011 11:09 PM

Props on the Toyota, post pics when ur done w/ the TJ... you got skills.

svtkev 02-28-2011 08:46 AM

thanks man yeah im gonna keep this thread updated with progress pics, the toyota turned out real nice, put 30000 miles on it and still made a profit on it,heres some pics of the front axle carnage
here she is all fixed up with the new brackets from morris4x4 we went ahead and replaced both sides since they came as a pair and they were much thicker than the originals

svtkev 02-28-2011 09:39 PM

got her torn down a little
made a little mess
little bit of damage

mitymouse 03-01-2011 07:33 PM

good start man..tryin for the life of me to figure out what this thing hit to take the majority of the impact so low! Did the frame survive that or did you have to have it pulled around?

Tarby 03-01-2011 08:19 PM

You lucked out if the axle housing didn't get bent. Every TJ we have had in the shop I work has had to have the axle housing replaced. The control arms don't "give" much when impact happens, not like the YJs with leaf springs, which I've rebuilt 2 wrecks. If this comes out as nice as your RAV4, you got one nice TJ coming up...good job.

Yeah I know how easy those axles bend , I work at a salvage yard and probably 9 out of 10 are bent!! I was pretty happy when I got everything put back together and took it down the road , I'll post up some more pics soon , just about got it stripped down enough to start sanding
Here's a pic of the tires I picked up yesterday 5 32x12.50x15 Goodyear duratrac

svtkev 03-02-2011 07:10 PM

No frame damage , drives straight , I think I got lucky on this one , basically I'm doing this on a $7000 budget including the jeep itself new wheels and tires budget lift fixing the accident damage and a full paint job

mitymouse 03-04-2011 04:50 PM

what yard you work for?

svtkev 03-04-2011 05:04 PM

mitymouse 03-04-2011 05:06 PM

Stripped, just about ready to start sanding

svtkev 03-15-2011 09:10 PM

Well heres a little update, not too much done on the body because due to my brothers schedule looks like we wont paint for 3 or 4 weeks
I am gonna swap in a 4.0 ,we got a 99 sahara 4.0 stick in at my work today and I traded my 2.5 driveline and $500 for EVERYTHING I need off the 4.0 sahara(I get to take the truck home and bring it back when im done)
Ill be swapping the motor/trans/t-case/harness/d-shafts but Im keeping my 4.10 axles so it should be pretty good for daily driving with 33s
Got a whole slew of parts delivered, ordered the rough country x series 4" lift,15x10 black rock wheels, aftermarket front bumper off craigslist for $50
I wanted to do a cooler swap but for $500 I couldnt pass it up,only thing I should need to buy is maybe a cat-back cause the sahara was hit in the rear and bent the tailpipe

mitymouse 03-15-2011 09:19 PM

sounds like your coming along

svtkev 03-15-2011 10:48 PM

Yeah it's a kinda slow process since my brother lives like 25 minutes from my house and that's where I'm working on it at
With the gas prices I can't afford to go as much as I'd like but I'm hitting it hard on the weekends

What does the 4.0 have for mileage? Nice do you beat $500 out of pocket. Any the yard should do OK with the 2.5 drivetrain with only 70000 miles. Nice shop...wish I had access to a lift and that kind of space!

svtkev 03-16-2011 08:48 AM

The 4.0 has just under 100k, more that what I had but from my experiences with these 4.0 these things run forever if they are taken care of

Here's my donor it's a shame because this thing was clean for a 99
I'm gonna change the body harness and everything over because this one had cruise and it will then be wired for rear defrost and rear wiper if I get a factory hardtop later

mitymouse 03-17-2011 07:08 PM

whats the doors like, 1 looks pretty good

svtkev 03-17-2011 07:35 PM

Left door is good

Zetsumei 03-17-2011 07:38 PM

Aw. Poor jeep! Well at least it's being used to fix yours up. You're doing an awesome job. Wish I could do work like that.

mitymouse 03-18-2011 05:07 PM

looking for a set of full doors, and an engine harness if you come across anything.

Nice project. My 16 and 18 year old daughters and I are building a '94 for them. Nice to get the kids involved. My 18 year old came home chuckling from school the other day because the boys in her class admitted she knows more about cars then any of them!
