rubicon trade???

Could use some advice on this. I have an 01 tj that I am thinking about trading for an 03 rubi. The 03 is stock and has new MTRís. my 01 has a 4 inch lift, new 33ís and other parts. I have 61k on the odometer, the 03 has 60.3k. sticker price is 14.8k. does it make any sense to try to trade up for it? And how much do you think I would have to end up paying? Looking to head up to the stealership at noon to haggle.

Haggle hard might could get you a good deal friendo drive a hard bargain worse thing is they ask security to escort you offn the property lol

hahahaha true. hoping i can get them to an attractive enough number to have my dad let me buy it. in his defense, i did just buy the sport in august...

Yeah that rubicon you will like more I wish I got on instead of my tj . I bet you can get in a good range to trade maybe finance a few grand at the most

Having gone from a TJ to a Rubicon earlier this year, I personally would rather build up a TJ than buy a Rubicon. For the cost of what you'd spend on the Rubicon, you could really do a lot nice things to your '01... ARB Air Lockers (which are better than the Rubicon's lockers) are all you really need to make it mostly like a Rubicon. The only other difference is the Rubicon's 4:1 transfer case which could still be added to your '01. You'd come out $$$ ahead by doing it that way. I only ended up with my Rubicon through a friend who sold it to me for a price I couldn't refuse after my TJ was stolen earlier this year.

my reasoning was mostly about the d44/d44, transfer case, and lockers. wouldn't it cost more to install those on my sport as opposed to just getting a rubi?

Jerry Bransford 03-01-2011 10:56 AM

The front D44 doesn't add anything strength-wise, the Rubicon's front D44 is mostly made from Dana 30 components. Only its center pumpkin, gears, and inner axle shaft is Dana 44. It uses Dana 30 axle tubes, knuckles, unit bearing hub, outer axle shaft stub, ball joints, u-joints, etc. The rear axle upgrade like to a Dana 44 etc., ARB air lockers, and 4:1 can be done for less than what you'd be paying extra for the Rubicon so long as you dont look at brand-new high-end axles etc.

Jerry knows more about Jeeps than Jesus.

Sorry Jesus freaks. When you're right-you're right.

hahaha that made me laugh

id say keep your tj if you already have got some nice mods on it.
i dont think many people are going to off roading hard enough to need the stronger axles

TJe0454 03-01-2011 03:20 PM

they sold it yesterday haha. oh well. so i guess ill stick with my sport as it seems like it makes financial sense to. non-related question: how much $$ and what would i need exactly to begin fabricating tube doors/rocker guards for my wrangler? i have a decent welder. manufacturers and models would be greatly appreciated.

ps thanks jerry for your words of wisdom.
