body lift?

i have a 98 wrangler sahara, its pretty much all stock. i want to put a lift on it but i dont have that much money. what is a good and semi cheap way to go? Body lifts?

I have a body lift and think it looks like poop. If you must do it don't go over 1.5" I have 2" coil spacers they are cheap and quick! Best to save money and do it right though I was in your shoes save up trust me

I agree! 2 and 3" body lifts look awful, you'll see more of your frame than anything. Budget boost lifts are only a little more cash but with that, most kits that are 2" come with new shocks. If the shocks on your 98 are original, they are probably getting tired anyway.

if i get 2" coil spacers would i need to replace the shocks?

Phil05LJ 03-01-2011 06:38 PM

Well not exactly but the stock length shocks will be stretched out and if you plan on flexing off road, you run the risk of overextending them and damaging them.

alright thank you, if i went with the coil spacers, are they the only things i would need to purchase or is there more to it?

The only thing that might help is to rent coil spring compressers from the local auto store if your going to do it yourself, they may even loan them out for free. You may also consider an alignment but that's something that is good to have done any way to help with drivability and tire wear, lift or no lift. There are no other parts needed to buy however, the 2" spacer kit that includes new shocks would be my preference.

thanks, whats your opinion on this?

I personally would never pay $500 for that kit. It does not include a lot of other components that are essential. There are many other "more complete" kits on the market that include new springs, nessasary brackets... The list goes on. If you want a small lift to clear say 31s, the simple 2" or even 1 3/4" spacer will do and you CAN keep your stock shocks. If your feeling hungry to go higher, it's gonna cost more money, not just for the lift but for all of the other components needed to do it right. I have been looking at getting a 4" Zone lift for my 99 TJ, I've read a lot of good reviews and there is a vendor here Alans offroad that I think hooks us members up with a deal.

I just put a 2" spacer lift and a 1" body lift on my 99 TJ. It can be done for $250 - $300.
