Stock vs After market bumper weight?

What is the weight of the stock bumper on a JK and what if any after market ones are lighter or the same weight?

I don't know the weight of either bumper but I know they are light. I think you would be very hard pressed to find a lighter aftermarket one but I have been wrong before.

tuff2010 03-10-2011 06:53 PM

The stock weight is around 27lbs, I just shipped a stock stubby with tow hooks and it was 24lbs..

My Poison Spyder Brawler Lite is 74lbs..

bamajeeper 03-10-2011 07:43 PM

The Olympic rock bumpers are about the lightest looking ones that I have seen . Maybe Jim Box will chime in, as he has these on his Rubi.

So do you have a receiver hitch mounted winch then?

JIMBOX 03-11-2011 10:15 AM

:D Yea, I've got two "mobile" light duty winchs of 2000lbs and 3500 lbs-

I've got a couple of MINI-PULLEYS (sheaves) that double the rated/pulling of the winchs, but they're not intended for heavy recovery--

I've moved my trailer over rocks withem, but haven't had to do any recoverys and I would think seriously if it happened-I have pulled my jeep up a hill, but with no resistance !!

My front bumper isn't designed for recoveries, but just to move trailers around, which I've done that and it's rated for 300lb TONGUE WEIGHT !!
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/PICT0172.jpg
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/PICT0177.jpg

It's all fine for me and my off-road trailer (very light), but I wouldn't adviseit for you guys that go out with clubs and DO MUD !!

ZOMB1E 03-11-2011 12:13 PM

Nonetheless, that's a pretty sweet setup for your needs. I don't think id trust that capacity with resistance either on my JKU :D

I would imagine you're a tough guy to shop for during xmas

:derailed:
Have you thought about mounting any recovery hooks to the front or rear bumper? Im wondering if the stock front hooks would still bolt on over that one

I like the price of the olympic, and the fact that it utilizes the stock fogs is a plus, but I need some kind of shackle or hook for what I use my jeep for. Right now I can't use my hi-lift on anything but the wheels with the lift mate (and winching I guess but I haven't tried that).

bamajeeper 03-11-2011 12:31 PM

Yes-- the stock front hooks will mount on that bumper. I have seen them on another forum pics. Also can put shackle mounts from Olympic and PureJeep on them.

JIMBOX 03-11-2011 12:57 PM

:D Heh Heh, yea my boys with firearms and off-road vehicles always have me buy stuff forem and SOMETIMES payback and they can't get me anything for xmas, but gift cards (Lowes/WalMart/Amazon)

Like bamajeepeer says, yea the stock tow hooks will bolt in the same spots, but to me it looks to TEMPORARY, so I just do the following-front and back--

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ecovery058.jpg

The Lunnettes are good for tow straps/recovery straps/ropes/cacles/whatever and will handle quite a load (over 19,000 lbs) I have two Lunnettes and the one in the pic is the bigger of the two, the smaller one will accept D-Rings (3/4")-

This pic shows the smaller one, but the D-Ring is 180 out of placement--

Hi

The Rugged Ridge XHD Aluminum Front Bumper might be lighter than the standard bumper, weight 26.9.

What Tom said. AEV Milspec bumper.

American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) - 2007 Jeep Wrangler Aftermarket JK Front Bumper

Don't be fooled by the "2007" designation. It fits 2007 + Jeeps.

how much of my lift do yall think i will lose if i put the rampage bumpers on? i have a 3.5" Rough Country series II. but also, if any of yall could recommend a FULL WIDTH front bumper and the matching rear bumper without the tire carrier for no more than around 1500 dollars thatd be great.

I have the Rampage bumpers front/rear. Can't tell you what I lost on lift, since I installed lift, tires, bumpers at the same time. They're heavy beasts, though.

Total price off Amazon for the bumers was right around $1K.

extremely tempting, especially the amazon.com deal $1099.21 for front, back and fog lights. BUT ALL THAT WEIGHT! Its just a stock JK sport

waiting to receive my rear lightweight one from EAD....i got the regular XHD up font+skidplate, which didn't effect my 2" Mopar lift at all

ReedFlip 01-22-2012 03:20 PM

Okay. Thanks everyone! I think I am going to get the Body Armor 4x4 Front High Clearance Bumper and the Body Armor 4x4 Rear Base Bumper so that I can mount the Body Armor Roof Rack without having to do any modifications to any other rear bumper.

dongalonga 11-03-2012 04:46 AM

After a bunch of research, I have decided to go with the Expedition One DX with wings and Rubi Skid. That combo will add less than 50lbs to my rig. Then factor in an Engo E9000s winch and we are around +/-100lbs. Not too shabby.

Not sure where you got all these numbers. My Warn elite bumper shipping weight was 105 pounds with bull bar. Winch weighs another 60 pounds. Or are these weight with the winch?

mjpjr45 11-03-2012 10:57 AM

I just got the HighRock Narrow front bumper from Bestop with the grille guard and it was around 77lbs.

When I read the title of you post, first I thought wtf ?
Then I started reading, and learned that this is one very valid question.
The answers i read are fascinating and mind boggling.
The weight differences are unbelievable. Add to this bigger and heavier rims and tires, add to this a winch - and there you have it : a dog !!
Granted, dog which may be rock crawling, but try hitting the highway with this. No wonder lot's of guys are switching to Hemi engines.
