Exhaust Modification

Has anyone done any type of modification to their exhaust system? I installed a K&N performance air intake kit over the weekend & I like the way it sounds. Now, I am thinking about doing something with the exhaust. Any sugestions?

Lots of people will tell you its not worth it, a few will tell you it is.

For your reading pleasure, peruse some of these threads.

exhaust

:dance:I have Air raid intake, throttle body spacer, Accel wires and performance plugs along with a Dynamax exhaust system. Contrary to what others might think, I can only tell you, my Jk flies and gets 20+ mpg in and around Chicago and or on the road. Got a great deal from Streetside on the Dynomax dual exhaust. From my point of view, all the mods are worth it.

My MPG readout on the dash was always around 15 MPG. I went on a 3 mile test drive after installing the intake kit & it was at 18.1 MPG. We did some running around later in the day, mostly stop & go & it stayed at 18.1
I was looking at some exhaust systems on Ebay, & one even had a video to watch so you could hear how the system sounded. A local exhaust shop said they could put a dual outlet muffler on for about $350.00 & they would try a few different ones while I was there so I could hear how they all sounded.

I'd recommend a Corsa DB since Corsa has an aggressive sound and guarantees no drone. But that is just my .02.

Are you getting that improvement using stock tires without lift? I have been thinking on doing those mods but I have 33s with 2.5" lift and don't know if it will improve my mpg at all. Currently, on stop and go situations it gets down to 15.5. On the highway it gets up to 18 depending on how much time I'm on the highway.

I just watched the video link on Corsa's website. I like the way it sounds.

I installed RIPP long tube headers and MBRP cat back exhaust this past weekend.I have a stock 2011 2 door Rubicon 6 speed with no other mods.
Very noticeable increase in power and my mileage went up 2 MPG. I would highly recomend this modification .

How was the install on the headers? Easy? Im looking at them, they're just so darn expensive.

Sorry for the delay, stock 17" tires, 2" body lift. If your really looking to get yur mileage up stay under 2,000rpm on the highway, makes a difference.

montanacb 03-16-2011 08:28 AM

The installation of the Ripp headers was easy.It took about 7 hours. This was my first vehicle modification since high school 30 plus years ago. If I were to do a second install I think it would take 4 to 5 hours. The quality of the Ripp headers is exelent . Much better than the old school Hooker headers from the 1970's. Metal flanges are thicker, no leaks, no louder than stock manifolds .The MBRP muffler is louder . I will get used to it.

Any tips on removing the rubber hangers so they can be reused? I tried spraying some lubricant on it but no luck.

jrussblues 07-01-2011 03:52 PM

Sawzall the tail pipe metal hangers.

Not saying you won't get better mileage but when I did my gears and reset my computer. It went from 15mpg to a little over 19.1 and held there a couple days and slowly went back down over time to 15.5. It took a little over 2 weeks before it settled out. I would like to hear how your gas mileage settled out.

I love the look of a dual exhaust on a Jeep. Definitely going to have to consider that.

I want to see you drag race a new Jesus motor, and let's see what you really got or if it is all smoke and mirrors. Bone stock 3.6 pentajesus against your hot rod 3.8 super mini van engine. I have the 3.8 myself and if your mods will make yours run with the Jesus jeep I want a complete detailed list so I can juice up my JK. I will fly to Chicago, test drive a new wrangler and race you just for the fun of it, and to see just how hot the new super jeep is. I have only had mine 5 months, and I knew the super jeeps were coming, but at my age I just couldn't wait and ordered it on the last day of 2010. I love it but i can't say it flys. Lets some of us JK owners, especially you guys with the hot rods take on the 3.6 guys. Yes I have to admit, I am very jelious of the new jeeps about to be born.
