VIBS and a Mod Friendly Dealership...Cincy

Hey guys/gals,

Here's whats up...Got a 6 speed...see the sig for specs and stuff.

well recently (just under 20000 miles on it) i have started getting a vibration through the steering column pedals and my butt(not what you think hehe)...my tires are balanced alignment is up to spec brakes are good no sticking/rubbing and here is the catch it goes away when i push in the clutch and it doesn't happen all the time i can go three to four days without it happening then it will happen...i hope to god its not my clutch going out i know how to drive them had sports cars and older blazers cj's etc....so i am familiar with driving a stick...i am easy on it don't ride it on hills or anything...checked my u-joints and wheel bearings this weekend to see if any of it is bad....is there anything i am over looking??? anyone got an recommendations on this problem and a dealer that is mod friendly so i could have a chance at getting use outta my warranty. im in the Cincinnati Ohio area.

thanks and sorry if its long and doesn't make sense.

You getting these "vibes" when your accellerating stopping or cruizing at a specific speed?

osbornl1 06-03-2007 08:26 PM

all of the above...it happens accellerating cruizing coasting and at any speed...unless the clutch is pressed in then it goes away..i can give it gas while its pressed in and it wont vibe and then i am also coasting with it pressed in and no vibes once i let out the clutch to start going again they come back.

might be the throwout bearing, or something, but it sounds like a trans/clutch issue... how many miles are on it?

20000 miles

Check is suspension parts are tight, especially front track bar.

I would double check the you joints. Mine has done that while it was stock and I couldn't tell thats what it was until I grabbed the DS and tried shakin it. It had some give and it was the u joint and its happened on the CV DS.

Remove the front DS and see if it goes away, next remove the rear drive shaft and drive in 4wd and see what happens. Also check the trans mount on the belly pan. Just some ideas.
note: not sure on the TJ but on the XJ when I remove my rear DS I put a plug over the output on the 231 so the fluid does not leak out. On my TJ's I have SYE's so thats not an issue.

Sounds like the clutch plate to me. Were you mud bogging or rock crawling lately and perhaps got a bit carried away? Last time I had a vibration like that in my '71 Torino, the clutch plate was glazed (one too many hole shots).

nope havent been out and about too much lately got too many things to upgrade on it before i go out again. i will double check my drive shaft ujoints one last time.

Dunno what your issue with the Jeep might be......but I bought my used 04 with about 22k miles on it from Kidd Chrysler in Lawrenceburg IN. Not too far from Cincy right across the border. You probably know where it is...if not, think casino riverboats.

Anyways, I've never taken mine in since I bought it about 6 months ago.....but everyone there was very cool and they sold a lot of modded Jeeps. Said anytime I modded something and had a problem with the warranty....to bring it to them and they'd make sure they treated me right and not try to blame everything on the mods.

Then again....if your issue is related to your mods....then it'd still be on you.
