dumb question?
 
Ok this may be dumb question but im not a mechanic....very far from it! My leaf springs are worn and flat. Can I just get a new set and replace them with out having to replace or do anything else? I have never done anything with suspension before so any help is much appreciated! !

Yes you can... New shocks would be a good idea too.

However, if you plan on doing a lift any time in the future of owning this jeep, don't waste money on OEM springs... You would be better saving a bit more and doing the lift instead.

Im pretty sure I have a lift. Cause its about 2 inches higher than my roommates. I think if I put new leaf springs in I will see the true lift. There is definatly aftermarket shocks so I was just figuring new leafs would rejuvenate it

is the shackles standard length? does it have a body lift?
if those are oem than you'll lose your lift more likely if you go to oem springs if what you're saying is true.

You need to figure out how much lift you have and if it is in the shackles or the springs. You must get the right springs if you want to retain your ride height.

A stock Jeep will have about 18" from the ground to the bottom of the rocker panel (botom of tub below door). Take into account the tire size and you will know about how much lift you have. i.e. A jeep with a 2" lift spring, 1" lift shackles, and 31" tires (stock would be arond 28") makes 4.5" of lift to the rocker, around 22.5" to the bottom. The stock shackles are about 4" from bolt centers, a 1" drop shackle will be around 2" longer. If you have a body lift you will see the gap between the body and frame and you will see the pucks on the body mounts. The only issue in your using this method will be the sagging springs... But this will get you close.

Pretty sure there's no body lift. But the shacles r definitely bigger. I have no idea how big. But im gonna check it all tomorrow right after I do my recessed tail lights!!

ChefBean43- I would definitely be prepared to replace the maineye bushings (the ones that go inside the leaf spring) and while you're at it the shackle bushings. Check to see if they are cracked or look beat... if they are new bushings you might be able to get them out and reuse them, but if they have any kind of wear you will most likely damage them while trying to remove them from the old springs.

I replaced my beat down bushings with prothane greasable bushings (basically doing everything you'll be doing if you are replacing the leafs) and the most time consuming part was removing the old bushings... I can think of nothing worse then you getting your new leaf springs, being stoked about putting them on, and realizing only once you've started that you'll have to replace your old bushings.

i need new leafs as well and am not sure what to look for, shackles are def longer... i assume a 4x4 shop would be able to get me to the correct leafs? without getting an entirely new lift kit? right? thanks

I'm not sure how this works. How is it that your springs are flat but your jeep is 2" taller than your roommates? I think we need some pics.

I just went through all this,and here is what you will discover.OEM springs alone will cost you the same if not more than a 2.5" or 4" RC lift kit that will include shocks .If you have more money to throw at it go for a better lift kit ,myself,I am happy with my 4" RC lift .

Quadratec had the best deal on lifted leaf springs ,I believe the best price was superlift ,not sure how the ride is on them ,maybe ask around on here.

yea just not sure what size leafs to get cause im not sure how much lift was originally put on the jeep, the shackles are def longer than stock and leafs are pretty worn and pretty flat...

I would just do a complete lift kit then,if you want to go RC I got mine on ebay shipping was cheaper than even Rough Country themselves .Just an FYI get rid of the shackles no matter what you do,but thats just my opinion .
