Help new to lifting and regearing

I have a 2002 jeep wrangler tj 4.0 liter inline 6 engine and everything is stock on it.
I want to put 18 in wheels and 31 inch tires on it and was told i need at least a 2 in lift on it, is regearing necessary for this and if so what gears do i need and where can i buy them. the wheels are mamba m2 and i dont know what back spacing i need or if i need wheel spacers. here is the website for them
Mamba Offroad Alloys - Type M2 can you tell me which 18 in wheels are best.
For the tires i was told to go with 265/65R18 can i go 275 with this setup?
Please help as much as possible

I run a 2" budget boost on 31" tires looks and performs sweet
I run stock 3:07 gears.on highways the difference is barely noticeable, offroad there is powerloss I'd like to switch to 3:73 or 4:11 to bring it back to stock feeling on power.
You don't have to regear with that combo but it would help.personally I problly won't regear it rides fine.I'm happy

Didn't you already post this up? You do NOT need a lift for 31's with proper back spacing. Back spacing is measured from the inside lip of the wheel to where it bolts on to the axle. Most people want this measurement to be less than 4" depending on their set up.

That's a lot of backspacing I don't know if that would be too much for 31x10.50 tires....... backspacing is the distance from where the wheels mates up to you axle and the back lip of the wheel. This pic will show you how and it is courtesy of four wheeler magazine .

It's all good. I'm no expert but I think 5.25 is too much

With 4" backspacing I have about 4" of tire sticking out past my stock sport flares
In my opinion over 4" is too much

I have 3.75" back spacing and 1.5-2" sticks out past the flares with 33x12.5x15 tires...

05wrangler 03-20-2011 08:55 PM

i got 4.5 backspacing on 33x12.5x15 and 3 inch of lift and no rub

I guess the tires play a big factor too
