Zipper detaching from fabric
I've looked at several posts and sites related to zipper problems on Jeeps, however, I can't find one that relates to my issue. One of my window zipper ends is coming apart from the fabric so when I try to reattach my window I can't get the end metal piece to lock into the zipper to get it started - because it's come loose from the fabric it's not firm enough to hold when I pull the zipper. I don't know if I'm describing this well, but hopefully someone out there will understand and be able to help.

Pics might help but what I am hearing I think only option is window replacement.

you can probably sew then zipper back on with some unbreakable fishing line or something like that for the time being until you can get it repaired at an upholstery shop. or, just replace the window.

I'd try a cobbler/shoe repair shop. Many have the heavier duty machines to make repairs on luggage and leather goods.

Thanks guys, but the zipper that is separating from the fabric is on the softtop. Sadly, I think I may need to replace the entire softtop. I can't see anyway to sew it. Suggestions for replacement softtops would be appreciated too. I think Bestop is the best out there, but a bit pricy for me. Anyone have any suggestions on quality and price?

I've heard lots of good things about the frame-less soft-tops......... I think I will pickup one of those later this year-but not sure they are any cheaper. Think rampage is the leader on those right now-----------but Bestop has one coming "real soon". I still believe you get what you pay for-that's why I always get Bestop-even though more money.

Honestly I would find a good upholstery or even a sail maker/ canvas making shop. You would be surprised what they can do. Never hurts to check it out first.

upholstery shop, boat sail shop, etc... is the advice i've seen here a few times. If you don't want to spend the money on a new top just take some extra time to take it off the frame and see what they can do.

My back window had a bad zipper took it to a canvas shop and 15 bucks later a new zipper . It works very well and being extra careful looks like it will last as long as the top .

buy a bestop softop . is the best choice, if you buy a cheap soft top you might be ending with more problems.

Thanks everyone. I took it to an upholstery repair store today and he said he's just going to put a new zipper on it. Said he's done it a dozen times for folks. That will be a lot cheaper than a new top!

Problem solved!

I also have a rear window problem. One of the zipper starters came off and now I have fastened a stop for the time being. This means that I can't remove the window to put the top down. I can only zip the zippers up to the top and roll the window. It then is crushed by the top. I will add pictures but will most upholstery shops be able to fix it?

my zipper is messed up as well. the tension is just forcing the zipper apart in certain places when it is already on. im considering an upholstery shop
