Have you signed up for membership in the VFW? If you are eligible, it is a great way to support our troups! I am a proud member of Post 9190, in Haltom City, Tx.

I'm lazy. Too lazy to do a search....

I'm a vet, and have always been interested in getting involved with the VFW. However, during Desert Storm, I was stateside working in a (place I can neither confirm or deny exist). I don't think I am eligible because I was never deployed. Plus, where I did work is NOT listed on my DD form 214. Anyone know if I qualify?

Did you go overseas at all? I was double qualified because of desert storm and Korea--believe it or not they are still under a cease fire and never officially called the war ended..

I never did a tour overseas. I made a couple trips out of the country, but nothing longer than a week or so.

I was definetly working class in the AF, but I was also involved in a dog and pony type scenario. It's kinda strange that when you have a special talent, that the military would rather put you in a position to show it off to dignitaries rather than actually apply it for anything constructive, or destructive as the case might be.

Anyway, no overseas tours... I think that is a requirement for the VFW. Too bad. I did kick ass... for a quick TDY.

Sorry, but no. You have to have participated in a military campaign on foreign soil. Check their web site, I believe it list all campaigns and operations that qualify. http://www.vfw.org

Here you go:
http://www.vfw.org/resources/pdf/neweligibility.pdf

Plus WW2, Korea, 1946-present, Viet Nam. Lots of good info on their site.

amerijeep 06-11-2007 09:37 PM

That's what I figured. Too bad. I have no way to prove I was there with the operations I was involved in.

Also, it's not nearly as cloak and dagger as it sounds. It was classified 'secret' though and probably still is.

I'm sure I'm not the only one in this position though. If they don't want me, then so be it. I'm offended, but that's their policy.

both my grandfathers are veterans
is there a way I could find out info about them? (one is deceased and fought in Iwo Jima and the pacific front, earned a purple heart)

You can still join as a social member, and who knows maybe some old timer can find a loophole for ya!

I just happened to notice today that the VFW over here is now closed and defunct. There is another lodge in town though, I'm thinking.
