Best place to mount train horns.
I've had my train horn under my hood for awhile.... It seems to be muffled under their. I'm looking to remount it somewhere so it won't be muffled but yet still hidden:D ....

I was think about tucking ontop of the tranny/t-case skid plate.... Got any more ideas for me?

Keep in mind, its a triple horn, longest horn is about 20"s long, and I have to run air lines to it.

Maybe on a train....

Nah, just kiddin'.

Do you have any pics of them? I am ignorant of what they look like.

I'm guessin' to what they look like, but I'd probably want to go under hood myself.

Man, my guess would be on a train, but that's just me. :D

J/K - I would think anywhere BUT the hood would be too loud for you. How muffled could they be under the hood? I've seen an old FJ40 Landcruiser with those things and it was...uhhh...impressive.

EDIT: amerijeep too fast for me!!!! :( :D

I'll put a six pack on the next TRAIN to Mississippi. :D

Similar but not exact, mine are a bit longer and bit closer together

Well if they are chrome and gaudy, how about mounting them on a Hummer?

JCS05Rubi 06-11-2007 09:44 PM

How 'bout on your bumper like a winch? Not hidden, but could be fun!!

If you were a retard from around here, id tell ya to put it on your roll bar, but thats not a good idea :p

Seriously, under the hood is your best bet. You may want to just adjust them though. Aim them down towards the ground and forward, so the sound "bounces" off the pavement and infront of the bumper. This wont sound nearly as "muffled" as pointing them at your block, or radiator, or even up towards the hood.

right now they are directed at the radiator, Most likely just aim them at the pavment then...?

penguin_in_a_cj 06-12-2007 08:14 AM

something I have seen done with them is mount them on the inner fender, I realize that it becomes a tire obstriction offroad.. but try the inner bumper underneith the plastic tword the rear and see if they will tuck if not the bottom of the hood may work..

by the way on a h2 would be more fitting

JCS05Rubi 06-12-2007 09:30 AM

ya Odd, try to move the horns closer to the firewall, and aim them at the ground 3-4 iches before the rad. I had a bud with horns mounted like that. Shook the damn ground, and did NOT sound muffled if you were infront of them!

Would they fit underneath the radiator mounted sideways? You might be able to tuck them up between the frame rails.

Just remember if you mount them directly above or below the cab you will have a lot of noise getting into the vehicle. It might be to loud and you will probably not like them. My personal opinion is if they fit mount them under the battery facing forward.

GraysonJeep 06-12-2007 01:36 PM

how much can you actually muffle a Train horn????

Odd is he 06-12-2007 11:32 PM

I mounted them under the battery facing at the ground, wow do they sound alot louder now.
