Tips or Tricks to Modifying the Stock Bumper

I'm planning on modifying my stock bumper to allow me to install a winch. My question to those who have gone before me is, are there any tips or ticks you can recommend? Also, are any special tools required for cutting the bumper, and what did you do with the front license plate? Thanks.

Believe it or not, some places will ban you for that. WF isn't so petty, which is one of the reasons I like it here best. :thumb:

Most winch mounting plates will go over 'stock' bumpers with no cutting...there are 'raised' winch mount plates for that, that will bolt into existing holes on jeeps, I know...used them. Just check the online catalog outfits, offroad suppliers, etc.
As soon as you 'cut into' a stock bumper you have weakened that bumper and it isn't going to hold up when you run into a rock or a tree...keep that in mind!

Thanks for the input above. I've seen the write up that a couple of people have done to modify the bumper to accept a winch such as sharkbyte, and Aelwero's, and it looks like it's within my capabilities, but before I pull the bumper and start cutting away, I wanted to make sure that there were no surprises in store for me. I'm looking for tips such as mounting the winch to the plate before mounting the plate to the jeep. Also this tool worked well, this one was a waste of time, effort and/or money type stuff. Thanks for the help

Yes indeed! :)

You guys are really great! . . . . I'm learning a lot . . . getting a LOT of education before I hit the dealer's.

I know I'm in the right place here! :thumb:

All best, Joe

Competing forums? Are we here competing? I really didn't think so. I thought we were here to help each other out. There I go thinking again. I must be banned as I am sure I have mentioned another forum at least once in a thread.

He said other forums will ban you. Everyone around here is really chill and won't do that. That's the reason this is the only forum I use.

Ah. That explains why I am still able to post. Sorry, my bad. I must have read it wrong.
