Minimum mods required to run the rubicon trail

Ok, so I am optimistically thinking I really want to try and hit the rubicon trail next year.

What would the minimum mod list be to prep ones jeep for the challenge?

I'm running a 2010 sport 6 spd with 35 x 12.50s. I am just about to pull the trigger on a gear swap to go to 4.88s but am waffling a bit on whether I should lock the rear with an ARB or leave it open for now. Ideally I want to pull the D30 off the front and go to a 44 but that's more of my mid term plan. :)

Thx in advance.

I heard stock JK's make it through with good line selection and minor body damage.

If that's true, you're over qualified then

Just my bit of advise, if you're pulling that 30 off, get a real axle under there...

1-tons FTW! those 44's aren't too far off from the 30

I was think the same thing. If I am going as far as changing the entire axle then might as well go to at least a D60

Now you're thinking. I'm not saying a 30 or 44 is bad, bc they aren't. But if you get a front 44 it's got the same crap going on as the 30. Sh*tty C's, wet noodle shafts, etc. Fact of the matter is you'll wish you went bigger. It's the 33's vs 35's debate, just with axles. You'll still need to dress up a front 44 too for hard wheelin'.

Little more you can get a big dog and forget about it.

What tire size you lookin' at? You can bling bling a D30 preeeeeety good and push it beyond a 44 if you do it right. I'm beating on a stock 30 with 35's and a heavy foot. I need some chromo's and C gussets...other than that she holds.

If I ever bombed the tube or R&P though, she's getting 1-tons for sure

Oh I thought u were the OP.

We're supposed to be talking about what it takes to run the Rubicon, not axles :P

Lol. That is good to know about the axle upgrades though. I was gonna keep my eye open for written off rubis and see if I could find a front 44. Maybe it would just be worth it to just plan for a new 60 that is geared and locked right from the get go.

Now back to the rubicon trail. Heh heh. :)
