Squeaky Noise in front end

Greetings,

I recently replaced my factory bumper with a High Rock bumper. I installed a winch along with some upgraded lighting and the added weight is causing a squeaking noise in the front end. Seems hard to determine where the noise is coming from. I purchased a RECON winch on e bay, I estimate it weighs around 45-50 lbs. the new bumper is probably twenty pounds heavier. Any help would be appreciated.

First, go through and grease every fitting you can find under the front end...then drive and see if the squeak stops. If it does, you fixed it...just needed some grease. IF it DOESN'T stop, with the jeep parked, jump up and down on the bumper, get the body moving up and down and see if the squeak is there. If there is, see if someone else can pinpoint where it is coming from and try to get grease on it. (Doing this limits possible squeaking to metal on metal, instead of drivetrain problems). Still got the squeak? Now you have eliminated any 'easy' fix problems and are down to drivetrain. My front end squeak that drove us nuts for weeks ended up being the CV joint in the front driveshaft. Expensive...cost of repair compared to replace with Tom Woods was higher due to labor, so we just went with a new Tom Woods and the noise is gone. Hint...it started out as a squeak and as time went by, turned into a 'chirp'...
So if you have eliminated all the 'metal on metal' standing still-and it still squeaks while driving-you have to start checking universals on the front axle and driveshaft. Park again, start trying to 'move' the universals and bearings. Anything starts moving-that's probably the culprit!

Thanks for the advice. When it quits raining I am going to look into it. Who/What is Tom Woods?

Tom Woods is the god of driveshafts. They have a great reputation of building custom drive shafts for a reasonable price. Check their web site.
