LED tail lights

Im a big fan of LED lights but i dont know if i wanna be seen as one of those jeeps that the only upgrades are lights and non-performance items. Should i just wait until i get a lift and tires/wheels or just go for them now? I need new tail lights after a fender bender. (my fender actual did bend)

sparky 04-06-2011 05:21 PM

You upgrade what you want, when you want to do it. Don't make changes because somebody else says you should. Your Jeep, your decision.
Biggest consideration is usually, can the wallet take the strain.

BlackMetal 2004TJ 04-06-2011 05:25 PM

thanks, yea i know i just want other opinions even though its not a big deal, and yeah exactly this is all i have money for right now. bigger things will come later

G54 04-06-2011 05:25 PM

There is no set order for mods. Do what you want. LEDs will look just as good on a stock rig as a lifted one. One suggestion though...you may want to consider corner armor at the same time. Depending which armor you go with some already come with the 4" cut out for LEDs. You're going to want it eventually anyway. Plus it may cover the damage you have.

AJeepTJ 04-06-2011 08:09 PM

I agree. Its your jeep... do what you like and can afford first. Plus I love my led lights! I think they look great and aren't very expensive.

This is what I did, something different from all the 4" round LEDs everyone does.

Rectangle LED Flush Mount Tail lights - JeepForum.com

very nice man i havent seen anything like this before, it makes for a very clean look! they do sell standard housing with LEDs in them for those that like the classic tail light.

yeah i love how they look and they are certainly worth the money. What kind do u have im thinking of getting the standard style tail lights that come with LEDs instead of the round 4 inch ones but im still not sure. either way i want them black or i may black them out myself.

Thanks!

The Savvy tail lights would also be a good option for anyone who likes the stock look. However they're pretty pricey.

Hope those ORO's last for you, alot of guys complain of them burning out real fast. But you don't have to cut the tub which is cool.

2003x 04-07-2011 08:29 PM

oh forgot to mention, this is my 3rd set......

The 2 replacement sets were warrantied from ORO. First set was free, 2nd set cost me $50, but was still brand new from ORO. Just a pain to keep changing them out and re-wiring them.

DevilDogDoc 04-08-2011 12:56 PM

See I would have a huge issue with paying close to $200 for taillights, have to replace them twice and have to pay money for a warranty issue. My $15 walmart LEDs are still going strong almost 2 years later.

YJ88GA 08-14-2011 12:24 PM

Having a problem with my conversion to LEDs. Have wired them correctly but when I put my Jeep into reverse the lights go out completely. Not sure what the problem is any suggestions?

In case anyone is interested, superbrightleds.com has exact stock replacement housings, since our tail lights are just generic truck lights.

Very nice looking:

There are two different versions, one with the license plate illumination and one without. You would have to get one of each.

If I got corner armor I may consider going back the the stock look with these LED housings.

SirGeorgeKillian 10-06-2011 07:01 AM

Flush mount LED's ARE a performance upgrade. Mounted flush they are less likely to get smashed and bashed. And being LED they draw less power, meaning more power left over for other off road lights...

Rubicon2 10-06-2011 10:05 AM

Here are the ones that I have on my Jeep and they have worked great for 2 years now.

Has anyone tried just replaceing the bulbs in their stock housings with the LED ones? I know they make them just have not really heard of anyone doing it. I have my factory taillights sunk into my tub which of course caused me to lose my plate light. Quick fix with an after market one wired into the harness. Just curious how the LED type would fit into the housing and how well they work before I go buy the bulbs. I alreadyhave LED markers up front with the #26 fasher installed so I know that part will work.

I prices it out, but cost wise and end result wise you would be better off replacing the whole housing with LED ones, like the ones I linked to about 4 posts up.

are these the SAME 'box' rear lamps that are on the 2011/2012 Wranglers???

They will carry those jeep style truck LEDs in most truck shops. That is what I am going to do. I acutally like the look of the fatory lights and they will be a hell of a lot cheaper in a truck shop that sells tons of them.
