First mod! silver on stock bumper removed

Really liking it without the silver cover and it so simple. Have to attempt the rear one although I've read its a bit more complicated.

tysalem 04-06-2011 08:19 PM

Nice :thumb: I've never been to crazy about the silver

jeepnyakin 04-06-2011 08:25 PM

Looks much better IMHO. Never really cared much for the chrome accents on a wrangler. Let the addiction begin. It all starts with the first mod!

First it's attempting to take off parts of the bumper, then realizing you can take the whole thing off pretty easily, 10 minutes later... ordered an aftermarket bumper :D

 you're probably right, but tires and wheels first! But then again we'll see how my priorities change after my Offroading 101 run happens in May.

Haha, that's what i thought initially. I have been saving up for wheels and tires for a while and just started looking at bumpers for fun. Then I was curious to see if I could remove the factory bumper, and I could! So I slapped on the rugged ridge xhd with stinger and I love it.

So..... I guess I better start saving up for wheels and tires again. I sold my hardtop and got 1200 for that, which is a start.

Nope didnt have to remove the bumper, the screws are easy unscrew, 4 on the top and 4 on the bottom.

fasthound 04-07-2011 07:30 AM

LOL...that's the first mod I did as well....removed that silver piece from the front bumper. Like you said, it took ten minutes.

I crawled under the rig yesterday and it looks like the only way to remove the rear silver piece is to remove the bumper....damn!

Decals are starting to come off next. Let the Jeep sit in the sun for a few hours and then they peel right off. Three down, three to go.

seelye 04-07-2011 08:13 AM

fb,is that the 2011 all white sahara?

KDirty87 04-07-2011 08:27 AM

I just took both of mine of yesterday! The front was easy, the back was a little harder b/c I had to take off the bumper. There are 6 bolts underneath that you have to take out to get the bumper off then there are 5 screws on the top and 4 on the bottom (all t-25) to take of the silver. then just put the bumper back on!

Nope its the Tan Sahara unlimited.

Going to tackle the rear bumper tonight! Shouldnt be too difficult.

schlitz 04-07-2011 10:30 AM

Let us know how it goes! I'm gonna try the front today myself! I didn't even think about taking it off.

fasthound 04-07-2011 04:09 PM

Silly question perhaps...what are the torque values for the bolts when you put the rear bumper back on (other than as tight as you can possible make it)?

I am not sure. But I was very surprised to find that the factory tightening job wasn't that bad to take off. I am pretty sure I put mine back on a little tighter.

Got the rear done tonight, it was pretty easy as well, the only difficulty was reaching the 2 middle bolts. If anyone is trying this when you undo the middle bolts make sure you undo the bolt further away from you, if you undo the close one the bumper will not come off.:thumb:

TxF150 04-08-2011 02:37 AM

Looks good, I personally don't care for the silver piece on the bumper of the Sahara myself, but looks are subjective to everyone.......

seelye 04-08-2011 06:01 AM

thanks for pics,,yep, looks a lot nicer,,looks like this is in my near future,,to bad its looking like rain today and garage is packed with 4wheelers and dirtbikes and trailers:)

greese 04-08-2011 09:01 AM

I like the look of the silver and want to add it to mine if any of you are looking to get rid of that piece. PM me.

I hope that's not your wife's minivan sitting there with a flat while you mess with your bumper first. :whistling:

FenderBender 04-08-2011 09:15 AM

 no that's just some random van in a underground parking complex.

If you really want the silver covers we can work something out I have no need for them so you can have them for a reasonable price, I just dont know much about shipping. They are extremely light in weight although Im sure the size of the package would play a role.

BTW I have 2 sets of these covers, took it off my sisters JKU as well.

fasthound 04-10-2011 05:30 PM

Just did my rear cover as well. Took 15 minutes...and only took that long because I had to pull out a few sockets until I found the right size :D

That rear bumper must weigh all of about 5 pounds...couldn't believe it.

Anyway, it's done and looks so much better.

seelye 04-10-2011 06:57 PM

ok i gotta do this asap.

maxblack1964 05-07-2011 09:38 PM

What did you do with the silver parts? I am looking for a new set for my JK

seelye 05-07-2011 09:58 PM

i have the cheapest set on ebay,,search "silver applique wrangler"

SylvanSahara 05-07-2011 10:28 PM

i like the silver but my wrangler is silver so it all matches up well

jk wrangler fan 05-08-2011 01:31 AM

I actually like them on the sahara, I'm a fan of the saharas 18 inch wheels and the silver inserts set it apart a bit more from the X and rubi.

seelye 05-08-2011 07:05 AM

i just didnt care for it because it was silver, they should have made them matching the jeep color,,besides i'll eventually throw on an aftermarket bumper.

Much better without the silver - fenderbender's comment was helpful as well.
