I actually just installed one of those inter-dimensional, cold fusion powered communication devices. It's pretty cool but my ears and eyes always bleed after I used it...Not to mention the anal seepage.

1. No cell phone towers where you off road.
2. To tell your buddy to back up and through you a rope.
3. If have more people trying to find your group on the trail.
4. Have an overturned rig in the woods, someone hurt, and the trail is blocked. There is always people on the repeaters.
5. Hurricanes take out all others communications.
6. Nice for evacuation directions, or to find people that need help.
7. Keep you awake on long road trips.
8. Phone patch to Pizza hut on your way home from the woods.
9. Meet new, and sometimes strange people.
10. It's a heluvalota fun.

MOz 08-03-2007 12:13 PM

Don't forget: You can piss off the truckers too.

Just remember they are a little bigger than you......

bmanrkg3 08-14-2007 04:28 AM

smokey reports! my cb paid for itself 4X over in one trip... (nj to colorado and back)

Tj Bunch 08-15-2007 11:20 PM

There also Alot of fun when you have more peeps to talk to, HAM is the way to go but some of can't afford those yet so we CB instaed.

"W4MAC" 08-16-2007 12:19 AM

Actually, you can get a 65 watt Yaesu 2 meter rig, for less than a good Galaxy or Connex. There is advantage's to both CB and Ham. If you like to raise cane and hoot and holler, then CB isn't really monitored ,unless there are several complaints. Also, you will see the CB busier on the highway, and in the woods. Advantage to using 2 meter is I can leave one on in the house and not worry about what my kids hear on the air. Also 2 meter is primarly FM, and a lot cleaner to listen to, or more phone like. My oldest 2 kids have ham tickets, {W4BUB N4NES} and can reach me anywhere in west central Fla buy knowing which direction I left in, and calling on the repeaters that way. But I gotta admit, CB was a lot of fun and always somebody on the air 24/7. I've had a great time with both, but that cuz I like to talk.

I thought about your question for about a whole minute and I can't come up with a reason why I installed one except...

I can or I wanted too. Not trying to be an a$$...that is the only reason I could come up with.

Walkeraviator 08-16-2007 08:27 AM

cuz the antenna looks cool

noise 08-17-2007 04:32 AM

Same reason people make sure there cell phone is fully charged before wheeling, take tow straps with them, conceal carry a firearm, or carry a knife or them at all times etc. You never know when you will need it, but when you do, you will NEED it. It provides a piece of mind when out off the beaten patch, and even when on the highway and no one will pull over to help. Thats what way I think about anyway:)

RIPBiker13 08-17-2007 10:13 PM

I was a trucker and they're just plain fun to listen to. But be careful... Ever see that movie "Joy Ride"?
