Project 9 Lives (92 YJ build)

Figured I would start a buildup thread on my 1992 YJ project.

A little background: I had been wheeling a 92 XJ for the past few years and it was starting to get tired from the abuse of wheeling. While the XJ made a great trail rig it needed a lot for the trails I was starting to run. I decided to part ways with it and picked up a well built 92 YJ from a fellow club member. The name 9 Lives comes from this rigs past. Its an assemblage of 3 different jeeps that should all be dead. Also its being passed on from one club member to another for a continued life of wheeling.

Now the fun stuff
Specs:
1992 YJ 2.5L 5 speed
170att power master alternator
Dana 30
superior axles, lock right locker, BDS rock guard and 4:10s
Ford 8.8
with Trac Lock welded, Solid diff cover and 4:10
NP231 with an AA SYE kit
JCR 1 ton UTK steering
5in BDS springs with 1 1/4 warrior shackles
Wheel base stretched to 96inchs or so
Longer travel shocks with custom rear shock mounts
Warn rock rails, front and rear bumpers
15x10 Pacer wheels with 33 13.5 Pitbull rockers
Zenon extended TJ style fenders
and some offroad lights

Shorter term plans, AtoZ front cage add on, Gen right 4in fenders, 35in rockers, 4:56/4:88s in the axles teralow 4:1 t-case kit. lower it a little, new seats and a matte black paint job

Long term. 1 ton axles, comp cut, 37s links air shocks aka a buggy

Last weekend I got the front window frame changed out to replace the red one with crack glass. The yesterday I drove it on the streets a little bit about 10 miles total to get her inspected. I think it was the most pavement this rig as seen in a very long time. Right now my debate is between gen right fenders or metal cloak. I really like the high clearance of the metal cloaks and judging by how much room I have with the 33s it looks like i can clear 37s on the same amount of lift with new axles.

Next step is getting the A to Z cage installed

Did some work on the YJ today. The pitting on the wheels was driving me crazy so I took a scuff pad to them along a power ball and cleaned them up a little. They are not factory fresh but I was able to get them cleaned up a good amount.

contrast between the unpolished front wheel and the polished rear wheel

both polished.

For anyone thinking about getting nice aluminum wheels be prepared to spend a ton of time keeping them look good.

kjeeper10 05-07-2011 05:13 PM

Had same wheels on my yj 10 years ago. And yes... High maintenance. They are so cheap now amazon has them for like $120.

Don't laugh this was like I said, 10 years ago lol.

Irongrave 05-07-2011 05:45 PM

they are a cool looking wheel and this rig has been around for a while. its been wheeled hard most of its life. When i decide on axles for it I'm going to get a set of either KMC or Allied beadlocks for it

Love the beadlocks, I just picked up a set of Moabs of off a 05 rubicon. Bad ass stock wheels IMO.

Irongrave 05-07-2011 05:54 PM

I've always liked the moabs and been hunting for a cheep set for my GFs rig (96 XJ) but this rig will very very rarely if ever see paved roads and I'm planning on running either, creepy crawlers or pitbull rockers in a 37in flavor

Irongrave 05-27-2011 09:17 PM

finally got some new parts starting to come in for it.

picked these up from CT Custom Metal in VA, stock height boomerang shackles so i can lower her down about and inch.

Irongrave 07-10-2011 05:37 PM

Figured I'd update this thread

got the booms installed and went wheeling last month.

how ever during the ride one of the guys saw this
http://stillwater-photoworks.smugmug.../IMG5987-M.jpgI've ordered a front frame patch section to fix it hopefully getting that done next weekend

I also pulled off the Warn front bumper and 8274 plate. I dont think either one will be going back on the rig. thinking about doing a home brew stubby

Irongrave 07-16-2011 11:51 AM

more of the front end stripped down. looking like mid week when i can get a friend with a mobile welder over to get it fixed

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...downsize18.jpg

but now with the front fender off I'm digging the look. So I need to figure out how to build an inner fender or where to cut the stock ones to keep the look

Irongrave 09-25-2011 09:14 PM

figured I'd update this thread

I have had a terralo for 8 years and it has been awesome-great product! again... keep up the good work, your build is an inspiration to others I guarantee it!

this is a very basic rig too. you should see the truggy I'm building with a friend of mine.

but the teralow. I've built one in the past and have built a doubled toy case with 4:7s

fabrikate_it 09-28-2011 07:32 PM

Irongrave 10-02-2011 03:51 PM

next major mod for the jeep, no more borrowed trailers. just picked up this mint 2001 18' Parker open center wood deck trailer from a guy in Monticello NY for $1800. Hoping to have everything squared away by mid November. I don't have a lot of time to get to the ins agent and DMV between now and then

did a little more prep work for the new metal cloak corners that are coming should have them some time next week. I pulled off the old diamond plate corner guards and gave the tub a quick scuff and shot of black hammered finish paint before the corners go on.

fabrikate_it 01-16-2012 04:48 AM
