Miles per Tank on 4.0L?

Just curious this. I see what people say for MPG's but most of them are 4 cylinders. What about the 6 cylinders. I know mine is not good on fuel being my gauge does not work, until I get this aftermarket one all wired up. Last time I ran out of fuel on the road I had like 180 miles to the tank that was full. I did some offroading and lots of idleing and testing but is that normal? With normal daily driving is that all im getting? Givin I know my tires are not helping ONE bit.

Setup:
91 4.0L Auto (bummer but I may swap in an AX-15 soon)
15x10 Micky T's w/ 31x11.5x15 TSL Swampers

Travis91 04-17-2011 07:42 PM

i have got 270 miles out of a tank of gas, im running the 4L 5 speed with 32x11.5 bfg all terrains but normally i run around 240 miles per tank

busemans 04-17-2011 07:55 PM

the wife's 93 with auto and stock tires got about 240ish. my 87 with 4.2 and auto gets about 180

jp2611 04-17-2011 08:02 PM

I never run to empty-but the idiot light and chime usually happen around 240-250

jrussblues 04-17-2011 08:05 PM

240 or so if its hwy

KawiTJ 04-17-2011 08:05 PM

My light comes on right around 220. Thats with 31 inch tires and alot of back road driving.

calimbrium 04-17-2011 10:22 PM

i get 260-270.

31x10.5 tires.

Jeepin91YJ 04-17-2011 10:26 PM

I am getting about 200 with 33x12.50 BFG and 2.5 lift

terminator012 04-17-2011 10:36 PM

Not near enough:D

Accursius 04-18-2011 12:59 AM

lol average 115 miles to a tank. Little better with a tail wind. Farthest ive ever gotten on a tank was 131 miles. Which is a whopping 8.7 miles to the gallon.

same lol

blackhawk 04-18-2011 03:52 AM

All of you who averaged like 230-240ish, how big of a tank do u have??

kj 92yj 04-18-2011 08:33 AM

15 miles a gallon x 20 gallon tank = 300 miles for me..........but i always chicken out and fill it between 260 and 270.

BPJOOP93 04-18-2011 09:08 AM

130miles. roughly. 33x12.50 stock3.07 gears all city driving.

Abomination93 04-18-2011 02:01 PM

Well I get between 15 to 17mpg x 20g tank = 300-340...but I dare not touch 250 w/o filling up...I hate running out of gas.

4.0l ax15 3.07 gears stock tires or 33x12.5x15.

My jeep is consistant for mileage, it is mostly highway driving I do.

I think the manual says 19 gal. I have 31s 5spd and 3.73s almost exactly 50/50 driving city/highway.

mysic93 04-19-2011 10:01 AM

Your not alone,Our 93 YJ barely gets 15mpg thats on the street or in the hills.6.0-5spd.4"lift running 32s.:banghead:

Moroney167 04-19-2011 11:47 PM

Awesome thanks ya'll makes me feel good about runnin out at 180 but that was pretty much all idling, testing, and trails. With the damn swampers on.

Installing a Sunpro fuel guage this week so no more guessing! Thanks for the info all.

Moroney167 05-01-2011 06:45 PM

So bump for this. 180 is deff all I can get ran out the 2nd time now at 175 haha. OOPPPSS. Might look into a small sneekie peet fuel container somewhere underbody or use the ol military can setup off r. bumber haha. Wish I didn't have these damn TSL Swampers I do a lot more road driving thatn I expected!

perkalator 05-01-2011 06:49 PM

I get about 240 miles average per 20 gallon tank on 33 12.50 and 3:73 gears. Don't trust your odometer unless you have corrected for oversized tires.

EmptyPockets 05-01-2011 07:44 PM

330miles to the tank. I have 3.55 gears.. don't know if thats stock or not. I did a test to see how far off my odometer was.. found out it is .2 miles off. I have some math to do to find out what my mileage is... 16.5mpg... was more but got a lift...

rivera82 05-02-2011 10:28 AM

4.0, manual, 35" tires, 4.10 gears (switching to 4.88 soon) I get 15.8

mag2395 11-01-2014 02:00 AM

I've got 3.07s in my 97 tj, and I have got just about 280 to a tank, stock tank which is 16 gal?? I have a Bluetooth obd2 scanner with live data and it varies from 12-18 depending on wind and hills.

spower 11-01-2014 10:48 AM

I really have no idea, my gas gauge is not even close to accurate so when it "says" 1/2 tank (100+ miles on trip meter) I fill it up.
Also speedo was never calibrated to bigger tires.

reno92 11-01-2014 07:44 PM

Ill get around 240 miles a tank, that's running 35" tires, 4.56 gears, no front disconnect so the DS is always turning.

Tom95YJ 11-02-2014 11:52 AM

My XJ goes 310miles to a tank with 33's and 355 gears. It has a 20 gallon tank.

My YJ gets 285 with 3.07's and 35's with a 15 gallon tank.

Jeer42 11-02-2014 12:06 PM

The most I have gotten out of mine was 210 miles to the tank. I average 200 with 33's and 307 gears, 5 speed. Mostly all city driving with a 15 gallon tank. Costs about the same as my Honda 4cyl. with a 17 gallon tank using premium gas. Regular gas around my parent's neighborhood is now at $2.95!

Sounds like you need a tune up bad or ease off the skinny pedal

Lol... I thought it was pretty good! Averaging around 14mpg.

armilt 11-03-2014 07:32 PM

Unfortunately I get around 150 miles per tank.
That's with 33's and a 2 inch lift going back and forth to work.
