I DID IT!! 10" SUB in the Center Console

Alright I am new to this forum but have looked around a lot. I was getting tired of having my rear seat removed just to get good bass. I had a 15" Kicker SoloBaric in the rear. Yes it hit real hard but I wanted my seat back so I devised a plan. I looked around to try and replace the sub in the center console like so many other people have. The biggest I heard of someone putting in without too much mods was an 8" sub. I wanted at least a 10". So I did it. It only took about an hour to do. If anyone wants to know how to do it let me know. I will post pics soon. But bear with me as my internet is wireless and doesnt like uploading pics. :)

danieldlg_13 04-19-2011 05:04 PM

I would like to see it!

2004 Rubicon 04-19-2011 06:17 PM

Yeah i would like to se how that worked and do it up myself. I put a 10 kicker in a truck box behind my back seat but it takes up all the trunk space which isnt much lol

doclouie 04-19-2011 06:32 PM

Yes please show.

Scoob 04-19-2011 07:07 PM

How does it have enough air space to work properly? Most 10" subs want AT LEAST .35 cubic feet to sound right. I dont think the console is even .1 Cf.

Pezkng 04-19-2011 07:14 PM

Would like to see. I have a custom box holding two 10" kenwood speakers with a 500 watt pushing them. The only thing about it is when i have my 1 yr old in the jeep cant turn up to loud but my 6 yr old loves it

Welcome to the forum! Pics would be nice!

I am at work right now but when I get home I will try to get some posted. Please be paitient as I said before my internet is junk when uploading pics. I can tell you now that I put an MTX road thunder 200 watt RMS 400 watt Peak into the console. For optimum performance though I am going to need a shallow mount due to the MTX being a little to big for the air space. It still sounds good and doesnt take up any space. Its more of a setup for people that want to save as much space as possible but wants to have a little LOWS added to your system. its not for SPL Goers. I will try to upload pics tonight.

Can't wait to see this.

Jeepn It Real 04-20-2011 04:21 PM

I really wanna see this, it sounds like a big project im suprised it only took an hour.

I put in a kenwood ksc-sw10 recently and would definatly recommend it if space is an issue (which it is for all of us). Its an amp and a sub in one tiny unit that i fit under my back seat. its nice cause it doesnt take up any trunk space or leg room but still is a very noticable improvement.

just checked that out, looks interesting, did you have to modify anything to fit it, do you think 2 would fit under the seat

Tremelune 06-14-2011 08:13 AM

So...Does it look stock? Exist? Work?

JeepJLBrandon 06-14-2011 12:21 PM

I thought about trying this with some memphis audio shallow mounts....the cost kind of made me not try it though. Glad to see someone else achieved this :)

It's been three months and still no pictures, where I come from if there are no pictures it didn't happen.

i'm gonna call BS on that one. an hour! some of the better skilled people who replaced the console sub took at least 2 hours just to get the the point when the extra plastic inside cut away to fit even just a factory sized replacement sub. than you have to factor in the wires and everything involved in finishing the install and than putting it all back together and working. sorry to put you in the spot but pics or it did not happen.

darylej2 08-22-2011 01:40 AM

No way

I agree - I bought a shallow mount 8" Kenwood and after buying and checking the specs found that the center console is not suited for it- just not enough volume in there- like less than half what is needed.
Now it will physically fit in there- and surely a 10" would also but just barely and would sound silly.
Also unless you were just going to use the flimsy plastic console liner(which would sound like a pile or crap) as a sub enclosure you would have to build a very complicated enclosure to cram into the console which would take several days not hours.

Jma20a 08-28-2011 03:51 PM

still no pics?

Mykll 08-28-2011 04:04 PM

Guess I could put up a pic, but would have to stop by Subway first.

BigGreen98 08-28-2011 04:11 PM

As promised, I have some pictures. Decided to install a 12" sub. Surprisingly it only took seconds to install. Because of that you can easilly test a few different spots.

Here it is installed in that hole on the dash. I think perhaps a smaller 6" would provide for a more factory finish installed look.

Attachment 65702

I installed it in between the seats in the center console cup holders.

Attachment 65703

Both of those install locations can sort of be un the way. But I found a nice location to tuck it out of the way. It took a few more seconds, but it has a cleaner look. Notice how the warming glow from the Pentastar comes up all the way through the gear shift.

Attachment 65704

After a few tests, I couldn't tell any sound improvements. In fact, depending on the install location and the direction of the AC vents, I noticed a slight paper rustle but was unable to track down the source.

Also I am not sure how well the sub would handle the Texas heat. But at least I didn't have to use Velcro this time.

Jma20a 08-31-2011 07:52 PM

with the Texas heat there is no need for them to toast the sub for you, let nature do the work.
