Spare tire mount

Need a new spare tire mount on my 2000 tj that can hold a 35" tire.....don't want to replace the whole bumper or go broke, any ideas or recommendations?

Bestop Oversized tire carrier. It can handle up to a 35" spare and does not put undue stress on your hinges. This way you dont have to completely replace the entire bumper to make it work.

I have the Bestop tire carrier with a 33". Don't have to swing away the carrier to open the rear gate, opens with the gate. Added a bracket for my Hilift jack as well.

I made a spare tire mount for top of roll cage. No blind spots! Check out pic in avitar.

The one I want is made by Or-Fab. It also allows you to carrier 2 Jerry Cans Jeep | JEEP TJ SWING AWAY SPARE TIRE/CAN CARRIER | 85201

See i want to do a drop down tail gate and a half top. So if the tire is mounted above me bumper it allows for that

I want to do a drop down tailgate as well. I was looking at the bestop swing out but it attaches to the tailgate. But the Or-Fab doesnt. The orfab dosent touch the tailgate at all.

Not sure what you mean here.

Check out thedirtworx on ebay, he makes some good swing away tire carriers that'll hold a 35. I believe his cheapest one is like $360 shipped to your front door I believe. It comes unpainted though. But he hand makes them so if you want to customize it a little bit he can change it up for you at really no extra cost. I just ordered one with a custom hi-lift jack mount and welded through d-ring mounts for $400 :) pretty excited about it. Only thing is that because it is hand made and he really likes to do a good job it may take up to a month to build and ship depending upon how backed up he is. Here's a pick of another person's jeep with it on. And here's a link to his store on ebay. He doesn't have the attached one on there right now because he just sold one :whistling: but I'm sure you can message him on ebay and he'll put one up.

If you are price-sensitive, Olympic makes an oversized tire carrier that mounts with the stock bolt holes on your tailgate and will hold a 35" tire with the stock bumper and a 1.25" body lift - YMMV with another bumper or without the BL. It is $79.

This bracket also allows you to remount the 3rd brake light where it can be used with a 35" tire, and accepts either a 5x4.5" Wrangler wheel or a 5x5.5" CJ wheel.

Admittedly, my tailgate rattled with the extra wieght. I solved this by inserting an inverted hitch insert in my receiver bumper, which supports the tire's weight and stops the rattle.

I would be nervous using that unless I could somehow support the tire too. And even then I don't know if I would trust the sheet metal to hold up that heavy of a tire by just a few bolts. Just my 2 cents though.

What i mean is that if the tire is mounted on my roll bar. Then i can have a drop down tailgate bcause the bumper does not have a swing out. And reduces the price of my rear bumper by 400 or more dependinf on company.
