4 inch lift problem

hi first off i wanted to say hi and i have already learned alot just reading and looking through threads and wanted to say thanks. But i got a problem i had purchased a 4 inch rough coutntry lift for my jeep along with 33x 11.5 tsl thornbirds. I was going to put the lift on tomorow. But, i had purchased it new besides control arms and springs but the problem is i think the guy ripped me off and gave me stock arms. will they work or no? I am pretty sure their stock because my father in law had put the same kit on and had his old control arms were the same. so i figured they wouldnt work. Any information would help. could i use the stock arms i was told it would pull the axle in to much sorry i am not great with suspension stuff thanks adam.

I just did my pro comp 4" and the new control arms are curved to keep it foward. so I doubt the stocks ones will work.

Do you happen to have a pic of the control arms in question?

Factory control arms on a TJ are made of C-Channel steel....
This is Rough Country's adjustable arm:

no they definately do not look like that though in the pic

AzTJ 06-29-2007 11:46 PM

acopsy88 06-29-2007 11:47 PM

yeah they do look like the ones on the top

AzTJ 06-29-2007 11:49 PM

those are stock control arms - I'd file a complaint, both versions of the RoughCountry lift come with new control arms.

acopsy88 06-29-2007 11:52 PM

Yeah that what im going to do it just sucks i had requested tomorow off i bought all of the tires and stuff. the 33s would rub with out a lift right? Also i have another little dumb thing to ask

AzTJ 06-29-2007 11:55 PM

Yeah - 33's won't fit on a stock TJ at all.

acopsy88 06-29-2007 11:57 PM

IM from central illinois and ever since i got a jeep everyone guy girl whos ever driving always waves. Is it just around here or is it everywhere?

AzTJ 06-30-2007 12:07 AM

Don't forget to wave back!

Ok i talked to the guy and he swore up and down it would work. I measuredthe oneson my jeep and the ones from roughcountry on another jeep exact same model i had purchased. They were a quarter of an inch different. Would it make the springs mount different and everything else????? Thanks adam

Are we talking about uppers or lowers here? The rough country lift comes with new lowers....but it does not come with new uppers. The new lowers are tubular and you retain the stock uppers. Although i would recommend at some point replacing the upper stock ones, i turned mine into pretzels gettin too much air. I replaced mine with adjustables.

The new contol arms should be tubular, with a slight bend to them. Make sure the bend is closest to your axle. As Mudweiser said, they only replace your lower arms.

not true.

i know a guy who is running 33" bfg all terrains on his stock jeep. if you stay on the street you should be ok. he doesn't rub over railroad tracks or anything as long as nobody sits in the back. he will rub over a speed bump if someone is sitting in the back though.

i ran 32's with no lift and never came close to rubbing on road so 1" extra inch would mean minimal rubbing at most. i still had a couple inches before the tires hit the flares even when parked up on a curb

i wouldn't wanna run this setup for a long time but for temporary use you'll be fine. btw, on another board the guy had a dilemna and installed his 33's temporarily until he could install his lift and he was fine.

why would u have doubt at 3 inches of lift anyway :)

bumpstop properly and your good to go with 3" of lift.

MoA 07-01-2007 09:36 PM

yah your right.. but i figured if i get tube fenders.. i might not have to change the bumpstops.. since tube fenders add 2'' of clearance..

i knew they could fit for on-road purposes..

acopsy88 07-01-2007 10:49 PM

So a no for the stock lower control arms or does anyone have 4 inch lift control arms for sale. ALso so you are saying i could run my thornbirds with stock with no rubbing.
