Place to wheel in NC?

Anyone know of any fun places to wheel in or close to jacksonville, nc? If so let me know, thanks.

It looks like your about 3 hours away for Uwharrie national forest. Not a day trip but load up the jeep on a friday night head out there for the weekend go camping and wheeling maybe a little fishing. I love wheeling down there and I've made the 16-18 hour haul form NY a few times

TerminalLance 05-01-2011 12:53 PM

Yeah, I will be making my way up there during the summer, but i want just a weekend place to go. thakns though.

If you..

If you have base access to Lejune, you can go out to the beach on the south side past the old fishing pier and wheel/fish/camp some out there. Might be able to get on some of the tank trails if you clear it with range control, not sure, I just hit the beach up.

Also on the very North end of Topsail you can drive along the New River inlet. There are a few good spots to test your flex, etc... plus its a decent fishing spot.

And if you want a long day trip, head up to the Outer Banks, you can catch a ferry to take you over instead of driving all the way up to Manteo and coming in that way.

Then there is the spots spoke of earlier.

ilmjumper 05-10-2011 10:46 PM

TerminalLance 05-14-2011 10:58 AM

jeepmonkey06 05-31-2011 11:19 AM

Does anyone here know if there is any beach around Wrightsville beach or Topsail that you can drive on during the summer?

mikes05unlimited 05-31-2011 03:57 PM

You can drive on North Topsail for free and Carolina Beach for $20 a day or I think $100 a year

ilmjumper 05-31-2011 11:06 PM

Or the south end of cb as well.

jeepmonkey06 06-01-2011 07:57 AM

Thanks. Heading there in 2 weeks. Going to try and take my baby on the beach.

ilmjumper 06-01-2011 09:28 PM

Always fun, North end of cb is more party beach, south end is a state park so more family/fishing action there. North end of topsail is about 15 feet long ;) ok so maybe it's a lil longer than that..but not by much! Have fun, don't drive in the water and watch the tide lines when you park :) Amazes me every year how many people don't think about the ocean being salt water...and what salt causes when you mix it with water and metal...

Are you guys running open diffs on the sand?

TerminalLance 06-09-2011 06:58 PM

i dont. thats just cause i dont have them. air down and you should be fine.

Doug Ingram 06-09-2011 10:05 PM

Open diffs are fine, never had a problem, of course if you wheel with open diffs it helps to learn how to use brakes/parking brake when the wheel spins.

ilmjumper 06-10-2011 12:14 AM

Not now but I have. Sands fairly easy here. Stay semi slow cause it ruts out and you'll start bouncing like crazy. Seen super stock jeeps and trucks get out there no problems.

eatdirt 06-26-2011 09:13 PM

We saw a couple of subauru out there up to their frame last year! That was funny. We have been to the north end but was unaware of the south end.
