Warn winch specs and Price??????

My old roommate asked me to buy his winch from him because he is moving and needs the money but I have no idea what the capacity is. All I know is it is a WARN. I know not to buy it under 8000 lbs, so how do i find out the specs of it??? If it is a 8000 lb winch, what should i pay for it??? thanks

How old it is, condition and what model it is will determine how much you should pay.

How do I determine the model and specs of a winch?

Take a picture and post it or there should be a metal tag on there with a lot of info.

I can't get a good picture because its inside his bumper. Where is the metal tag located.

Mortalis5509 05-12-2011 11:39 AM

On the body. If you can get a pic then you wont be able to see the tag.

Whats the winch on? full size truck suv, etc??

It is on a jeep Cherokee inside the arb bumper. I am gonna try to attach a picture but not sure if it will work because I am using my phone. The picture is looking at it from the bottom.

That looks like this:

Warn m6000

Which also looks like this:

Warn m8000

Have him take it off it hes planning on selling it, then look for a tag on it to identify the make model, or post up what you get off of it and we'll see if we can help.

I would say its either the m6000, m8000, or xd9000, probably leaning towards the m8000.

Warn Industries - WARN Premium Series

He will only take it off if its a for sure sale.(Lazy A$$) but what should I offer if it is a m6000 or m8000?

Peepers 05-12-2011 01:06 PM

No more than $300 if its the m8000
$150-$200 for the m6000

and if he complains just show him you can get a brand new (lower powered (more gears, less hp)) one for $480: Warn Industries - Jeep, Truck & SUV Winches: VR8000

or a new m8000 for $540:
Amazon.com: WARN 26502 M8000 8000-lb Winch: Automotive

or figure half the new price, so $270 for the m8000

Also I would like to test it prior to removal. I was thinking to have him winch me up a small hill. Or what would be a better test for it? I have seen it in action before but I wanna see it again to be safe.

Peepers 05-12-2011 01:17 PM

I did a full extension pull up a hill the day I installed my warn. it says in the instillation manual that it has to be pulled once before its ready to use.

Find a large hill some where, put his jeep at the top and yours at the bottom. put your jeep in nuetral and have him pull you up the hill. also, while the line is out, look for any kinks or broken threads. if you find any you might want to consider replacing the line.

Is there any difference between a m8000 and an m8000 ce???
