Sad to say that.......

I will most likely be leaving the jeep community.

I anihilated my driveshaft and blew my rear end out on the merrit parkway a few days ago.... All because I down shifted around a turn from 5th to 4th gear.... very scary thing going 55mph around a turn in the left lane. This is the third time this year this has happend, and yes I have an SYE.

I decided to fix the jeep and sell it. Allthough I will be leaving the jeep community i wont be leaving the offroad community.

Just though I'd let everyone know.

Neil.

I know I'll get the itch again one day....... But for now being 18 and just about start college in the fall I cant be stuck with a vehicle that has the saying Just Empty Every Pocket....

for now Im looking to get a large pickup truck that will help me with my new job working for a windows and doors company, most likely a ford turbo deisel, or a dodge cummins:D .

skeeter 07-07-2007 12:05 PM

Sorry to hear about your Jeep.
For godsakes don't get a ford diesel. Get the Cummins if you truly want something reliable.

Couldn't resist......;)

Hey.....get a Tacoma or Tundra (used of course)

Levinoss 07-07-2007 01:43 PM

Hate to see you leave, but why exactly why would you do it a third time? Specially going 50 on a left turn? Sounds a bit like you were racing to me.

I want to say more but I dont want to totally ruin your goodbye thread, and seem like a heartless bastard. Because thats not the point of my post.

Good luck maybe you should look into a sports car?

surely then you can see why im broke. i have a jeep AND a dodge cummins. the cummins costs money only b/c its so fun to drive an d mod :D

the new trannys are solid. get the auto if you wanna race but be prepared to put some money in it first to beef it up. you can get programmers that add a couple hundred hp :D

sorry to hear youre unloading the jeep, but you gotta do what you gotta do

We ran a business pulling campers from the factory out to the dealers, we had about a dozen Dodges pulling em out and only one developed tranny trouble, that was an old second generation with the 5 speed and all we had to do was replace a nut on one of the shafts.
I put 150,000 miles a year on my 03 dually with an auto that never skipped a beat.
The guys with the fords on the other hand spent much of their time in the shop.

i agree with you skeeter. let me clarify. i was saying, dont expect the auto to hold up if youre running lots of extra power, doing boost launches etc. most of the failures i see are from abuse. on the nv-4500 when it dropped overdrive, it was usually from being lugged in fifth gear. all that low end torque just ratcheted the nut right off. the new autos are actually very good from all ive seen/heard. i have the hand shaker, and have been happy with it so far.....

Odd is he 07-08-2007 08:42 AM

Not many power launches from me.........

I'm leaning more towards the dodge cummins. But we shall see, once i fix my heep I'll have to see what i can sell it for....

My uncle in law did the same job with a Ford . After putting in six clutches in 220K miles he gave it up. Could be that he just can't drive.

ford-found on road dead........... or ford, atleast they circled the problem

Dodge- dripping oil dripping grease everywhere

OdhinnsChick 07-09-2007 02:00 PM

My family has owned many fords. The only one we ever had trouble with was my 87 T-bird. Best t-bird ever made but after 12 years it finally decided it wanted to burn up with me in it. =P My 98 mustang was a great car but after owning an Acura/Honda I'll never go back. There is just no comparison.

Dodges...besides Odhinn I've known several people who have had tranny problems. Odhinn had to replace his twice before he saw the light and bought a Jeep. Of course, I was pushing him to get a Titan. :D

Good luck on your new vehicle purchase. I know many people who would call others Un-American for only driving foreign vehicles but they aren't the ones having to pay for your ride. If I'm going to pay $25k plus it better be a good quality car that I don't have to repair or trade in after 5 years. :p

Odd is he 07-09-2007 03:04 PM

I wont be paying $25Kplus for anything right now.... more or less around 15K...... Time to build up some credit

I know I'll come back to jeep side when I get older and get ahead in life:D
