Check Engine Light
 
I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler and the check engine light has recently been giving me some trouble. It will come on for a couple days of running and it will either just turn off while driving or when you start it up it won't be there anymore. Everyone that I have asked has said to check my fluids, and no matter what they are all full and set. Especially since I am driving it to College Station this weekend for the first time since I have bought it and I want it in tip top shape fluid wise. Nothing is leaking from undercarriage when it is parked, so my thinking is that maybe its something electrical? But either way, if anybody else knows what it could mean, let me know!

Btw it has been running perfectly since my uncle and I installed a clutch plate.

And it would be just my luck for it actually break down on my trip out there! :facepalm:

Go to Advance Auto or AutoZone, etc. Have em scan the system for you, it's free!
You'll then know what part of the system is causing the lamp to light up.

It's not a fluid problem. Check engine is the computer telling you one of the parts that make up it's systems is acting up. Yours is an intermittent problem. Most likely a bad sensor.

I went through the same thing with mine. Light comes on, stays on for 10 or so starts and magically goes back off. It always seemed to come on in damp or wet weather and was showing random O2 sensors slow response. This went on for a year with no problems other than the irritation of seeing that light. It turned out to be a leak from the manifold. Get the code pulled and let us know what it is. You can try to pull it yourself with the key trick but I don't believe that the 99-00 Wranglers had that function. Turn your key to the on (Not crank) position, off, on, off, on. If it works you should see the code in your odometer window after about 5 seconds followed by the word "done". The CEL has to be on for this to work.

Thanks guys, I think I may need to do a whole new rewire. I should have done that when I put the new battery in, but I was too lazy! Hopefully when I check connections and replace it won't mess up.

Same here with my intake gasket. I had a vacuum leak that would set off the CEL. once I drove it through the drive cycle, it scanned again, if good at the time my light would go off. intermittent CEL untilI I finally saved up the cash to have the gasket replaced :)
