The Jeep is ALL MINE!

After 17 years... beater cars, sporty cars, stick shifts and automatics... I have my 2003 Jeep Wrangler. Purchased in 2003.

And today, I paid this mutha off!

I've not owned a vehicle outright since I graduated from high school in 1994, and bought a 1990 Chevy Corsica before starting college. It was to be an "economical car," according to my dad. I hated that ugly grey thing with the red interior.

But all is good. At 35 I can say the Jeep is mine. Dave Ramsey, watch out... I hope to be calling you in about two years.

I just needed to brag and share my excitement. Return to normal, boys and girls!

Jim

sahara13 05-27-2011 02:56 PM

I was going to say 8 years of payments!! Did you figure how much you paid in interest those 8 years??

I thought the same thing (8 years). I pinched pennies for 3.5 years and didn't do or eat anything the last 6 months to pay mine off. I ended saving a couple thousand in interest by paying more per month.

Now that payment you don't have anymore... extra money in the pocket...

*cough* mods *cough*

You can get 8 year payment plans. I guess it works better for some?

Congrats though!

An eight-year automotive loan? Holy shnikey's!

Mine was a five-year. I only paid it off a few weeks early.

Next step - I got my new headlights from Quadratec, and those will go on this weekend. I want to take the milk jugs off, paint the fender flares and use my detailing gift certificate to make it look like new!

Congratulations on paying off the Jeep!

Sadly, I have never paid off any vehicle that I financed. I always change my mind and sell/trade well before the loan period is complete. I intend to change that with my current Jeep, though, and I am planning for it to be the first financed vehicle which I will actually pay off. <fingers crossed>

You did state in your original post that you had just paid off your loan on your Jeep that you purchased in 2003. That makes it 8 years. Did you refinance the Jeep to make it a 5 year loan?

dstacy 05-27-2011 04:51 PM

It took you 8 years to pay it off?
Hey its your money but you're 35 years old; somebody should have taught you the golden rule... if you can't afford to pay a car off in 4 years either buy a cheaper car or put more money down. At 35 you should be 25% of the way to paying off your house not an 8 year old Jeep. Consider it a lesson learned but don't repeat it.

jiminmanjr 05-27-2011 09:30 PM

Oh!!! I did not buy the Jeep new! I bought it June 2006... It was three years old. I must have mistyped. Sorry for the confusion! I'm whooped from tornado cleanup - my town got hit earlier this week.

dhamilton83 05-27-2011 09:34 PM

Still have a whooping 6 years :(

jameslee97206 05-27-2011 10:10 PM

I use an unsecured line of credit through my bank so I have a tittle and a jeep, but still owe...Does that count lol

GoldenSahara00 05-27-2011 10:17 PM

Wow, reading this makes me feel lucky. I saved money since I was a little wee boy and then spent it all buying my jeep. but no payments! I probably will not own another vehicle for years and years. unless I end up with a cheap "eco" car as the OP mentioned, just for the sake of gas.

Congrats on being free of debt! (on the jeep at least)

AirWick 05-27-2011 10:28 PM

Congrats on paying it off! I paid mine off as well and it feels so damn good to not have a car payment, don't it!?!

Riptide63 05-27-2011 10:33 PM

The Payment Delete mod= Best Mod Ever. Congrats!

MP92 05-27-2011 11:16 PM

:punk:Congratulations!
My first car is the jeep I have now and its PAID!
Only Jeep I've ever owned!

doclouie 05-28-2011 01:21 AM

Great job, Dave Ramsey would be proud. There is something about not having debt hanging over your head that makes you feel so much better.

Please share the golden rule (non-argumentative) in more detail. Life is short, and bliss has intrinsic yet intangible value. Perhaps not to some in accounting, but real life can't be illustrated on an X and Y axis.

All I have to say to Jim is congrats!

That sound much better!!
Congrats!! :punk:

I bought my '01 Jeep 2 years ago and had a 6 year loan on it. Did that purposely so the payments would be lower and I could afford it even if something happened with my job, which it did as I've been off work for 11 months now with a bad back.

Paid it off 2 months ago already though, so it's all mine!!

kjeeper10 05-28-2011 11:21 AM

Paid my 01 off about 5 years ago. I will at some point finance a newer vehicle. After 5 years of a $430 payment I vowed never to buy a new vehicle again. IMO the worst investment ever. Now I gotta decide whether to buy a slightly used jeep or spend more on mine :)

QFT. The day I paid off my Jeep 18 months early was one of the best feelings I've ever had, but one I intend to never need to have for the rest of my life!

MoA 05-28-2011 10:38 PM

sometimes i wish i woulda traded my jeep in when i got my car.. then i wouldnt have car payments.. but then again.. my jeep has been paid off since 03 and im the original owner.. and i only got a year and a half left on my car

6InARowMakesItGo 05-29-2011 02:40 AM

i bought my tj about a year ago and financed it for 4 years. so i've still got 3 years officially. i've been making extra payments so i should pay it off in another 2 years.

bardb 05-29-2011 01:17 PM

Congrats  Now either bank that monthly payment into savings or apply it towards another debt and you'll really make Dave proud.

give it a couple years.. i made it 2 years outta highschool before i got my charger.. mind you i was making $1200 a week after taxes starting out in a career field that i would of been making $100,000 a year by now, if i hadnt joined the damn marines..

once your outta school and you gotta drive to work everyday and you need a reliable vehicle, and you cant worry about breaking your jeep offroading or keeping your jeep in the garage for weeks/months on end between doing mods.. it felt good knowing i have a backup vehicle thats mine and i dont have to share with my mom like i did with mine and hers 96 xj..

Hendog 05-30-2011 12:27 AM

I own my TJ outright and it is def a good feeling.

SirGeorgeKillian 05-30-2011 01:46 AM

I lucked out and traded my old truck for the title of my current Jeep. Still waiting for the title to come in the mail though....
