Rampage grille insert

1 Attachment(s)
Have any of you used the Rampage grille insert? I like the black mesh look and they look like a nice quality product. I know people will suggest making them on my own for a lot less money but honestly I would rather save time and buy them already made.

Any pros or cons to adding this insert or any experience with this brand?

Here is a photo of the grille insert I am looking at buying.

Thanks as always for your help! :Thanx:

I like mine quick and easy to install about 15 minutes

To be honest its not much different to buying a ready made one to just buying the mesh and making it yourself. The ready made is still just a piece of flat mesh, just cut to size - which takes all of 5 minutes.

Install is still the same, glue some tie down squares to the inside of the grill and cable tie it on. Simple.

This is what mine looked like as I had a couple of the cable ties in place. The hold downs are just white (or black if u can get them) plastic squares whit a hole through the raised centre section so you can pass a cable tie through. Glue them on (dont use the supplied double sided tape - it will only last a few days).

The only thing wrong in this picture is I had the ends too long. They need to be trimmed to only just pass the ends of the last grill slot, then I simply folded them over to sit flush against the grill with my finger (mesh is aluminium - from local auto accessories place)

The rampage is raised in the grille slots and the new install is two brackets and four bolts a friend of mine purchased one a while back maybe 2-3 years ago and it used the self adhesive squares and zip ties but we both agreed the new install was much easier

That's fine I guess, but I went with Metalcrafters on my 10 Rubi. It's more expensive but it's stainless steel. I got the black powder coated. It's been in over a year with no rust or wear. The Rampage is "steel". It has to rust eventually. I'm sure that's why it's less expensive. If you only want to do it once get stainless steel. You pay more up front but it's worth it. The home made jobs are flat and not molded like the Metalcrafters or Rampage. I don't like the flat look, but that's just me. I like to spend the extra $ on my Rubi and do it once and do it right, especially since the grill comes in contact with everything first. The Metalcrafters does a great job keeping everthing out. It all depends what you want, like and want to spend.

What about the deal with airflow? I would think an insert like that would impede the air directed to the radiator a slight amount. Is it enough to damage anything? I think it looks real slick, and I'm considering buying one myself, but probably not if anyone has ever had an overheat problem.

Absolutely no problems with air flow, they look great and your radiator is protected.

Thank you for all the advice, reviews, options and photos! We did decide to go with the black Rampage grill insert. Ordered today so should be in by the end of the week.
I guess this will be my first official mod to my new jeep. Not a big one but I have the feeling this is just the beginning!

Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!

I am planing to get a rampage black grill for a 05 wrangler, do you know how do you open the hood after grill installation? it looks like the grill covers the hood security latch.

thank you.

This is the JK section. Since you have a 2005, you will want to ask the question in the TJ section.

I'm looking at this as a grill insert to hope keep bugs and shit out of my rad, anyone know do they help at all with that?
Maybe lined with screen behind that?

I used a different install (drake off road) to fit a mopar hood lock. So far so good. I've been cleaning bugs and salt off of it. The problem with the 7 slots wide open for crud to wreak havoc on the radiator didn't sit well with me. Now I'm happy.

I've had the Rampage for almost a year and a half no rust or cooling problems works great looks great
