rough country long arm

so i like the idea of upgrading my current lift to the rough country long arm kit. OR buying the full long arm kit. gotta couple questions:
1. are the shocks decent for the full kit, or should i get the upgrade and buy other shocks?
2. are the track bars decent.....
3. are the coils decent....

i talked to Troy from Tom Woods Drive Shafts a couple minutes ago and will be buying the AA SYE and their HD driveshaft once i get the kit on.

thanks for your help!
Thomas

I got the whole 6" long arm kit on my jeep and have been wheeling it for over a year without any issues just the shocks being a bit stiff

thanks for the feedback. do u have aftermarket diff covers? if so, do they rub on your track bar?

just4fun 05-31-2011 06:27 PM

I have an a to z fab front diff cover and it doesn't rub. Stock cover on rear for now.track bar are full adjustable and have all relocating brackets also

TJe0454 05-31-2011 06:42 PM

who makes your relocation brackets and track bars

just4fun 05-31-2011 06:44 PM

It all came in the kit from rough country and the shocks are the 2.2 series

Irongrave 05-31-2011 06:44 PM

the RC kit is a POS. I've never had good luck with anything they make. if you wheel look into the Clayton or Rock Krawler kits. both local North East based shops, Cayton's in CT RK is in NY. Their stuff works very on the terrain out here

just4fun 05-31-2011 06:49 PM

Again its a matter of what you can afford and peoples choice . My buddy has the rock krawler and has more issue then me and it cost about a thousand more then what I have. If I had the money at the time I did mine I would have done skyjacker

TJe0454 05-31-2011 07:01 PM

Irongrave, have u run the long arm kit from rough country? not trying to be mean, but i would like first hand advice

Irongrave 05-31-2011 07:09 PM

I have not personally run the RC kit on a rig I've owned I have installed it into a TJ and it was off the rig in less then 3 month because of issues from RC not wanting to correct. We were shorted parts their arms didn't flex well at all. their springs and shocks were a joke. I've also installed their long arm kit into an XJ, same arms, same issues. both are now on clayton kits.

i am going to be doing the upgrade which doesnt come with shocks/springs. i have my existing skyjacker 4" coils and a spacer that i will use. and will be getting OME long travel shocks probably

For the price of the long arm upgrade kit I think you'll like it

I just upgraded my RC Series II kit, but basically over the last 4 years added everything to make it the X-Series kit, then to the Long Arm Upgrade. $756 from JC Whitney. I run the 2.2 shocks with it and no complaints. I am sure there are better shocks, but I have nothing to compare them too. I run RC front and rear track bars, again no issues. The Jam nut has come "loose" a few times, but just tightneed it up. I have had the same coils for over 4 years. The front sagged when I added a winch. I simply added two 3/4" spacers and it leveled it back out.
For the money, I cant complain. I have had good service from RC and never had an issue.
The Long Arm is great, rides very well. Just make sure after the first 500 miles you re-tighten the flex joints.

it looks like the RC and the Rustys longarm kit are identical

i looked at the rustys kit. looks like the control arms are connected closer to the frame as opposed to the RC arms. They have the longer lower control arms with the upper arms attaching to the lower midway.

that is one good lookin jeep my friend. how do the 35's flex? and what is that light in front of your door for? turn signal?

just4fun 06-02-2011 09:28 AM

I know my long arm lift kit and 35s made all the difference in the world on my jeep. I take it more places and it does good even though it not locked in the front and trac lock in the rear

did you install it yourself? doesnt look too difficult

TJe0454 06-02-2011 10:54 AM

just talked to RC. looks like its $809 for the upgrade plus 60 shipping.

just4fun 06-02-2011 11:20 AM

Yes I did the whole kit by myself on my back with hand tools.the hardest part is cutting off the stock control arm brackets off the frame. Lots of grinder wheels and cut off wheels and my sawzall.

Flexs great with 35s! Yes, I added the amber light for a turn signal. Its super bright at night. I had a shop install mine. I didn't have the tools needed to do it right.

Few more pics of her..

Check JC Whitney, I got mine for $765 with free shipping, with 2 coupons. I PM'd you.

just4fun 06-02-2011 12:53 PM

If you let rc know the price from anyone that sell there stuff they will beat it.

I tried that and they wouldn't match it, the best they could do was $865 shipped. Shipping took about 3 weeks because the kit was on backorder. What I didn't understand was, it was still shipped from Rough County. lol.

can i borrow your wife? hahaha

did you get the kit from RC directly?

just4fun 06-02-2011 05:45 PM

Yes last year

Mortalis5509 06-02-2011 07:11 PM

RC long arms isn't going to flex as good as a long arm kit with JJ's at both ends. In suspension you get what you pay for. Now I have RC but a short arm. I'm in the process of putting rear upper and lower control arms with jj's from Currie on my TJ, reason being I'm doing a tummy tuck. The rubber bushing will bind slightly as they flex and will put more stress on the mounting point. A good quality short arm like Rokmen or Currie will do just as good as a long arm and you can do the work your self. Short arms won't hang up in the rocks like a long arms can. Do short arms, trim some sheetmetal, tummy tuck, mml, all coil spring lift no puck, out board rear shocks, and you will be giving someone with a long arm a run for there money. Not to mention you will have a low center of gravity.

just4fun 06-02-2011 07:25 PM

What are you talking about not alot of flex.man I stuff my 35s deep into the fender wells and the tires don't leave the ground as often as the short arm kit.everyone that I wheel with can't believe its a rc lift cause how good it works.I wish the talk about my lift is junk would stop cause if you haven't used there new long arm kit then zip it until you do. Im not locked I don't have a ton of cash in my jeep it goes anywhere that the guys I wheel with take there hi dollar jeeps and im on a smaller tire.
