One side of retainer bar for softtop back window keeps popping up

I have a 2011 unlimited. Accidentally closed the tailgate on the retainer bar as I was in the process of installing the back window on the soft top. I bent the retainer bar clip up but got it back pretty much to how it was.. I noticed that the top right corner of the tailgate is bent only a very little upwards and now every time I close the the tailgate, the right side of my retainer bar pops up and leaves a half inch gap between the weather stripping and the gate. *This is only the right side where the the tailgate is bent. No chips on the paint.. Anyone had this same problem? What should I do? Possible that I don't have the bar properly installed?

Thanks in advance

Now both sides popping up. Anybody have a picture of how this bar is supposed to look on the plastic clips??? This would help alot because my bar looks like it just rests on top rather than being snapped in.

Thanks

Are you rolling it into the retainers?

Are you sure you have the retainer clips on the correct sides? I know it sounds like a stupid question, and I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but the reason I ask is that the first time I put on the soft top I made that mistake. They would hold the bar that way, but not well and it kept popping out on me until I swapped them.

Inferno- I am rolling it into the retainers but am
Not sure if I am doing it correctly

Lunaras- no insult at all.. I am still in my wrangler learning process lol... The way I have them now is if you are out of the vehicle looking at the back door, If I look straight ahead I would be facing the opening part of the retainer clips. Does this make any sense lol??

Sorry to jump in -- that is correct, but there is still a left and a right piece. Easier to describe with pictures, but if you look at the ends of each plastic piece, you will see that one end has a wider opening than the other. You need to have the wide end facing the inward and the more closed end facing outward on each side. If you don't have these on the correct side, the retaining bar will not engage fully. Easy mistake to make.

Hey Thanks for your input. I have to check this out. This may be a likely possibility as I installed the top in the dark. Note: definitely don't recommend installing the soft top for the first time at night time!!
Thanks again

I don't remember, but aren't they marked L&R or P&D?

If I understand what you're saying, that sounds right. Assuming no major changes from '08 to '11, the bar should roll in from the back and be pinned in place by the tailgate being closed (I was doing it incorrectly from the inside, doh!).

Not my picture, but here is what it should look like:

The bar should roll in, so the rubber flap sticking out from the bar lies flat on the rubber seal on the side of the tailgate.

Inferno- yes they are marked left and right

Lunaras- thanks for the pic

Irideducs- thank you so much for the Information. Turns out I had installed them on the wrong sides.. I fixed the error and it now closes properly with no gap and without popping off!

The clip that belongs on the left side is marked "LH" and the one that belongs on the right side is marked "RH".. I'm sure this has happened to alot Of owners being that there are really no instructions as to how to install them..

Thank you guys so much.. I love thIs forum!!!
