Speedo Install Into SYE Help

I just installed a SYE in my transfer case. The speedo assembly is suppose to go into the new bearing housing. There is no raised dot on the new housing to align the numbers on the speedo assembly to. The instructions say it only goes in one way, though I am able to put it in at 2 or 3 different 6 o'clock positions.

How do I know if the speedo assembly is inserted correctly? Can damage occur?

The plastic speedo gear on the new output shaft, that came with the kit, is much larger in diameter than the factory shaft's built-in gear. Is this going to cause inaccurate speed readings?

I have a TeraFlex SYE kit and a 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport 6cyl TJ.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

If installed incorrectlty your speedo will be off. You will not damage anything.

There is only 4 ways it can be installed. When installed in the 3 incorrect positions, my speedo simply didn't work.
I don't have the dot either but you can eliminate a couple of positions immediately. Lying under the Jeep doing the install, you are able to see the numbers on the housing.

Thanks for the input!
This is what I did and it works!

The first position I tried made my speedometer go in reverse! Made me feel like I was driving on the wrong side of the road in Europe or something.:nonono:

I then removed the rubber o-ring temporarily to get a good feel when inserting it. I put it in and starting turning. Right off the bat one of the four positions was not going to work. Did that a few times and got an idea of where it should go. Happened to be in the same position before the SYE.

I was joking about it going in reverse!:D

It should be if it is the same gear. I went from a stock gear to a 39 tooth gear which is much larger in diameter. I had to rotate it one direction or the other to seat it properly. The different positions provide different clearances for different size gears, and my new one wouldn't fit in the same position as the original. :thumb:
