Interior Dimensions

Hey all,

I'm still in the process of deciding wether or not I want a TJ, but seeing as my decision depends on 2 major factors: camping and off road performance, I need to know some information about the TJ's interior space for camping capability.

1st: What is the length of from the tailgate to the front passenger seat? (tumbled all the way forward, like someone is getting in the back)

2nd: What is the diagonal length from either front roll bar post to the rear roll bar post directly diagonal to it. (ex. driver's side to passenger side rear)

Thanks

approx 57" tail gate to back of front pass seat tumbled forward.
approx 58" diagonally rear roll bar to center roll bar, the one by the front seats.

If you need it, the rear tub floor to where it drops to the front, and between the inner fenders is 36"x36"

Sadly, TJ's are quite lacking in space, while being fantastic off-road.
You may need to consider an LJ or 4dr JK.

Or....... a trailer :thumb:
I'm in the process of building a trailer for hauling camping gear. I can fit all of my gear in the Jeep if I'm creative, but I'm tired of spending my first hour in camp setting up AND unloading my Jeep.
There are a few threads in the Fabrication section about trailers, if you're interested. Many people have used a small and relatively low priced Harbor Freight trailer as their platform.

Get an lj! The hip room isn't great but 15 extra inches of space behind the front seat means I can sit comfortably in the back at 6'4" and I have a lot more room to store stuff. I actually put a small truck box behind the rear seat for extra locking storage. A jk gives extra hip room but less head room and if you get a jku then you gain a lot of cargo room, but lose a lot of maneuverability on and off road.
