ok, this is my first yj with a manual tranny, iam still learing this.
here is my problem. i have a ax15, somtimes when iam in 4th and i hit a bump it will pop out of gear. ill hit the clutch and put it back in gear and it will be fine untill the next decent bump on the hwy.

no other gear gives me this problem.

Maybe your transmission mount is starting to get worn out? If you are giving it some gas over the bumps does it still pop out? Putting torque on it should hold it in better

i know today i was on the gas when it happend.
i was looking at the trans mounts the other day. i did notice that there is what looks to me as a touqe bolt/mount on the driver side of the trans attaching from the mount to the skid plate. there was no busshings there just a bolt with washers, it dose have play init. my guess is that it shouldnt have any play and maybe some bushings there. is that correct?????
what would you call that bolt???

thanks for the info

Yeah there is supposed to be a bushings with those bolts. Go get a new transmission mount. You can get poly if you want it to be a little more rugged

I had the same problem and for me it turned out to be th PO had installed the console wrong and whenever I would shift into 4th or reverse I would have to hold the shifter in place or whenever I would go over a bump in the road it would pop out. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info guys, i looked at the trans mount, it dose look abit worn. but the other bolt thats under there next to the trans mount is a single bolt with a nut on the top and bottom with two bushings inbetween. the bushings are no longer there. but when i look for a trans mount i just come up with the one that has the 2 bolts that attach to the trans plate.
any idea of what that bolt is called???
