Ocean City

I'm coming down there Friday, does anyone who lives there know how the police are towards doorless-jeeps?

I've heard they pull you over on sight, but I'm not trying to drive 3.5 hours will doors on, maybe throw them in the back seat?

What is the law in MD? go buy a cheap mirror and rig it

just4fun 06-07-2011 09:04 PM

I went to napa and got two 6" round mirrors and they came with L brackets and I bolt them through the door hinges and been using them for 2 years. I got pulled over for no tag light and the cop said nothing about my mirrors

PTWarrior66 06-08-2011 02:13 AM

I have the mirror to put on.

In MD it's illegal to not have a door handle, stupid but true. Nobody actually knows this but OC cops I've heard, just wanted to hear it first hand.

Go to the hardware store and by a door handle and glue it to the side of your jeep and tell them here is your handle

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

THat was great. I haven't been down to OC in the jeep in a long time but I usually have the top and doors off and never have had a problem. Just tell the cops that its a jeep thing.

I've been driving doorless in MD since my CJ-7 dayz !?!? All you need is to be sure to relocate/have the mirrors when the doors are off.

Now, the Peoples Socialist Republic of Maryland does have some krazy local laws: Montgomery County (I live in Bethesda, MD and got a ticket & "tow away" orange sticker) No car may be parked in the same space for more then 24 hours! AND, it's illegal to park outside of your property line curb for over 24 hours. Went away for the weekend and my idiot neighbor called - one more day of vacation and my other car would have been towed to the impound in Gaithersburg.

just4fun 06-08-2011 08:36 AM

Its the cops in oc looking out for lifted vehicles and tires out past fenders and acting like idiots .

patricks 06-08-2011 08:42 AM

I wonder if you could pass with saying that you have a door handle on the tailgate door. I mean, it's a door and a handle right??

here is another link where someone cited some lines from the law

The long and short of it is, OC municipal law states you have to have doors.

We were pulled over last year for it.

just4fun 06-09-2011 06:47 AM

As much as I would love to take my jeep to oc im going to pass. Im probably getting ready for big dogs and crawl 4 the cure at rc in the fall

I'm in MoCo as well. The cops are just bored out here.

As for the doors, definitely staying on for the drive (60% chance of rain). But I'm taking them off to cruise around, don't really care if I get pulled over. I'm going to Bethany tomorrow first off.

I'm just worried my door may now be stolen.

just4fun 06-10-2011 10:02 AM

Im in fredneck and to cops up here just take a good hard look at my jeep. Mainly cause I don't have a front license plate and I've gotten a warning ticket for no tag light and my doors were off.

PTWarrior66 06-11-2011 02:01 AM

I drove through Frederick today with dead tags. I picked up my Jeep after it failed over at J&M truck repair for shot front bushing mounts. They were going to charge me $260 for new shocks and labor, they're a fair place and I'd recommend taking a Jeep there to get inspected, they don't through bullshit at you like 9/10 of the other shops do when you take a Jeep there. I just took it to my buddies they helped me and just swapped in new bushing mounts. Gotta drive it back up and hope not to get pulled over.

patricks 06-11-2011 12:21 PM

Just have someone follow you up there

just4fun 06-11-2011 12:22 PM

He's an outlaw lol

patricks 06-11-2011 12:25 PM

ha I actually just got my stickers yesterday. I had a temporary registration but didn't want to tape it to the back window becasue then I couldn't roll it up. It is way to hot to keeep the windows down. So I just had to let it sit for about a week

97_wrangler 06-30-2011 12:08 AM

i live in Pasadena MD about 2 hours from OC and as long as you have side mounted mirrors ( i drop my dads old motorcycle mirrors in my door hinge ) the cops dont mind. ive had my jeep for 3 years and never pulled over. ive always had my half doors on in oc.
