Performance upgrade ?
 
Which way to go? Air intake, Exhaust, and a chip or re-gear (and which gear set would be best). Not a heavy duty off roader and want to get the most out of the engine I can without stressing it. Upgraded to 285 75R16 (33's) with ATX artillery wheels. Running Daystar 3" comfort ride lift. Do I really need either upgrade? Will I notice the difference or will it be subtle? Thanks in advance for any input or advice.

What stock gearing do you have? I mean being you only went to a 33x11 esenially Im gonna say chip/programer here.. It wont give u everything the manufature says it will but it will help. Regearing is ideal but for the tire size you are at I'd say leave that mod for the future cause you never know if your gonna go bigger and that 1200 bucks to regear give or take a few hundered dollars is not worth doing IMO at the tire size you went to.

Stock gearing is 3.73. Standard with auto transmission on 2011 JKU.

Others will chime in here but Im gonna say go with the chip in your case.. The resistance of a 33x11/16 over what was stock for you just isn't enough IMO to warrant regearing

It depends on whether you want to feel like you get more power because the 1st will sound better or if you want to get actual power with regear. And 3.73 isn't enough for 33's. Yes they will get you by. You can put on the air intake, exhaust, and a chip and it might get you close to were you was with stock tires and that's about it. You don't lose a minimum of 2 MPG when going to 33's for nothing. Jeep put on the lightest tires they could find to reduce resistance and weight and good 33's do neither.

If you regear to either 4.88 to 5.13 it will put your power band in line to were it should be. You will see around 50% more hp at a given speed over 3.73 gears. 3.73 on an automatic should have never been put in a Jeep to begin with. The 4.10 on a Rubi should be the starting point.

Every vehicle is a little different. What do our V6's respond best to? Is our intake or exhaust system really restrictive? I'm not impressed with the things I've read on computer tuners for our vehicles.

Bang for the buck is with a regearing.

The air flow stuff could maybe get you 20 ponies or so if you did it front to back, but it's going to be expensive compared to a regear.

The chips that adjust shift points can really help those with auto transmissions.
