Weird Door Hinge Nut
2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys! I just got a 2006 wrangler X this week, and I tried to take the doors off today. I know this is prob a newbie thing, but theres a brass looking shield over the nuts so i cant get a socket or anything on them. Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas? Ill try to post pics. Thanks!

dremel with a cut off wheel

Yep. Weird.

You might try crushing the "cover" with a set of Vice Grips until you can turn the nut. Then you can get the nut back and not damage the pin threads.

Think I saw something awhile back about anti-theft devices that can be put on doors, this may be one of them, may have seen on Quadratec?

a jeep with a device so you cant pull the doors off?!?! anti- theft or not, thats just not right

There would have originally been a custom key that sticks in there to turn it. I have locks like that on my jeeps doors for when they're on. Check the glove box for the socket/key but if you don't find it I think all you can really do is dremel them off...

Thanks for the info everyone! I took rmed's advice and went for the vise grips and they came right off.

If yall dont mind I have another question about the half doors. The soft top half isnt sealing completely against the metal door. Its just a small gap at the bottome right where the door angles up when everything is closed. Is this normal or do i have a problem?

Try bending the upper frame to meet the door better, but mine have a smallish gap, it's not really a problem.
