Hello, new guy here, thanks in advance for your technical wizardry. I've devoloped a bad rear wheel shimmy at 50-55 mph. tires are balanced, U-joints tight, the driveshaft seems to be missing balance weights,( can see where they were stuck on w/ silver double sided sticky tape) stone stock '05 , 4.0, love my 6 speed manual, could I have a tranny mount gone bad already? (42xxx mi) Would a local parts store stock a poly tranny mount? I want all poly bushings top to bottom, and want to fix this before it shakes something loose. OK, TMK

well if you think you lost some balance weigths i would bring it to your mechanic and ask him to rebalance it, if that doesnt work switch your rear tires to the front, this will tell you if the tires are out of balance, then last resort would be to get new poly bushings, im not sure if you can only get one, i know they have the whole kits; http://www.quadratec.com/products/16045_404.htm
but really they shouldn't have already worn out

keep in mind that poly will generally transmit drivetrain vibes to the your seat, pedals, tub, and steering wheel much more than rubber mounts will. i've also heard (not confirmed though) that if swap the tranny mount for poly that you should swap the motor mounts for poly as well...something about having one point more "fixed" with poly and the others rubber that causes problems???
maybe jackstand the jeep, pull rear tires, and slowly let out the clutch in 2nd or 3rd gear. look around for anything shaking abnormally. if nothing go for 4th or 5th? just make sure you chalk the front wheels very well so you don't have a gravity suprises.

Poly is great! But yes it does increase felt vibration and noise as well. And when you replace one thing, do it all. MM and TM should be switched out at the same time. If not you'll rip th rubber ones to shreds. Thats what happened to me at least.
