Is this the new 2012 Front Bumper?

No more gap between the front fenders and front bumper....Looks good on a Sport, not sure about the look on a Sahara with painted fenders???

Can anyone confirm this change?

mgola27 06-17-2011 07:08 PM

Looks like the Canadian/European bumper. These angles make it look best, but in the flesh, I'm not too fond of it. In full profile, it looks weird.

However, from a purely functional point, I bet it keeps splash off the hood & windshield.

Not sure if it's being used for '12 US models.

I could see it on the Euro models being that their front plate/tag is narrow and long unlike the U.S.

The fog lamps look more functional being brought out to the corners instead of being located in the center of the bumper.

Right hand drive is the first clue.

I see that in the Sahara pic ...or maybe it's just a 'wicked' U.S. Postal version?

Working for the PO and just having purchased my first wrangler I would be all for that.

axelaR 06-17-2011 09:23 PM

The Canadian bumper is the same as the US bumper.

That is the Euro bumper.

Maybe you could low ball em and get it for cheap!!

JTPhoto JK 06-17-2011 09:49 PM

That is the Euro version and has been since 2007. Canada is the same as the US.

Yup, we go through this every year.

SeaComms 06-17-2011 10:00 PM

Same in Australia - been the stock bumper since 2007. Down here the fog lamps are not allowed to be closer than 600mm, prob part of the reason for the redesign.

However, they have also been called the fat lip bumper, or the park bench bumper... Mine made a good camping seat til I lifted it :)

Sorry, my bad on the Canadian reference. Should've verified.

Thanks for correcting me.

Hi from sweden, Europe

The EU bumper is to big and not good for offroad and looks ugly. Even the US bumper is to big and affects approach of angle negatively.

Look at the short bumper on this Landrover Defender, excellent Approach angle at 49 deg

http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/cro...--6_800x0w.jpg

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/upload/...erDefender.jpg

EU Wrangler bumper:

Approach angle 38.4 deg.

Departure angle 31.3 deg.

US Wrangler bumper:

Approach angle 40.8 deg

Departure angle 37.4 deg

Landrover Defender :

Approach angle 49 deg.

Departure angle 47 deg.

My old 2001 Suzuki Jimny :

Approach angle 42 deg.

Departure angle 46 deg.

Suzuki Samurai: ???

Approach angle 48 deg

Departure angle 40 deg.

Hummer H1:

Approach angle 72

Departure angle 37.5

Lada Niva:

Approach angle 40 deg.

Departure angle 32 deg.

Mercedes Geländewagen:

Approach angle 40 deg

Summary:

European wrangler has one of the worst approach angles in the world in the group "real 4X4" because of the big bumper.

The US bumper aint so good either.

Dont get me wrong I love Wranglers and have ordered a 2012 Wrangler, but I do not like that Jeep have lost some of its heritage as a military vehicle.

My concerns are the ugly bumper, to big but I like it black. Painted fenders and roof, not so practical and all that Chrome, I hate chrome. The lack of flat colors, only shiny colors.

As a naturephotograper I want a more military vehicle to hide from animals and people:)

I really hope that we dont get that chrome thing that US wrangler Sahara have on theres bumpers.

Best regards from Sweden

Hi

Here are some side photos of European Wranglers with theres huge protruding bumpers. They do not fit a offroad vehicle.

Make the photos larger, easier to see.

All you need is the bumpers and a couple of wrenches. You can sometimes find people giving away the stock bumpers on any of the Wrangler forums.

Hi

You can probably change to Us bumpers but I wonder if it will be legal in Europe.

In some way I think that Jeep USA had to change the bumpers so they could be sold in Europe, european rules?.

I do not think that is legal with the front US bumpers with the 2 front Tow hooks and that the open space to the tires in front, might throw rocks forward???

The rear US bumper do not have the reg. plate in the middle, the european bumper has the reg. plate in the middle so it can be seen from both left and right side. I think that the spare wheel is in the way to see the reg. plate on a US wrangler from a right angle.

I dont think it is legal in europe, If You find out more please tell us.

Best regards from Sweden

In addition to the above mentioned differences the Euro rear also has reflectors in the rear bumper for higher visability at night and fog sitiuations

The person asking lists Colorado as his local WF section in his profile so I think it's safe to assume that he has it in the US.

kik 12-08-2011 07:05 AM

No it's not. The "European" bumpers are primarily for pedestrian safety. I guess if you waffle a European with a JK they won't get more killed than if you had a US spec or off road bumper. So, in the infinite wisdom of some believing that there is a lot of pedestrian waffling going on in Europe, Europeans have to tolerate that bumper.

Vin 12-08-2011 07:33 AM

The rear European bumper has the license plate on the rear of the bumper, so it extends down a few more inches. Not good when wheeling.

rightsideLori 12-08-2011 07:32 PM

I'm looking for one for my rhd! I hate it when the only dirty part of my wrangler is the front bumper that's been splashed!

sportman 12-09-2011 09:20 AM

Thanks guys, but I wish the answer from technical point of view, installation and fixing does US bumper fit 100% in place of European one (front and rear) so I will remove old European ones and order OEM US spec. and swap them does it work?

JIMBOX 12-09-2011 09:46 AM

:whistling: Always remember that the advertised APPROACH angle is only for advertisement comparison and general marketing-

The approach angle can be increased up to 50% with angle approach and/or shorty bumper--

The DEPARTURE angle usually will stay the same and is always DECREASED BY hitch and accessories !
