adjustable lift kit

so i met a couple people who work at a custom autos shop and was talking to them about gettin a lift on my tj and one guy said that they do an adjustable suspension lift(never heard of this)
he told me that they heat treat the factory coil springs and put in adjustable shocks. making it a 3-5in adjustable suspension lift.
i was thinking of getting it cause $400 seems like a good deal on a 5in lift but it seems kinda fishy to me.
any thoughts?

To go much over 3" on a TJ you have to start changing driveline angles and doing SYE's and it gets real complicated and expensive, real fast. I think I'd read through the lift review sticky here and go with something that is tried and true.

Modifying stock springs is not recommended, it's old school tech and it will not be the same as getting a proper lift. Spend the money and do it right, rustys off road has a nice 3inch lift that goes for 500ish and there are a few other companies that have competitively priced kits as well. Spend the money right the first time and you won't regret it.

run away.

if you want a lift look into Currie, Clayton Off-Road, Old Man Emu, BDS and RCD (Race Car Dynamics).
